About C & W Berry

C & W Berry Ltd is one of the UK’s largest and most respected independent builders’ merchants, supplying a comprehensive range of building materials to trade and public customers. With a long‑established reputation for quality, service, and reliability, we continue to invest in our operations, infrastructure, and production capabilities to support future growth.

We are now seeking a skilled and proactive Facilities Manager to take responsibility for the management, maintenance, and strategic development of our land, buildings, and wider site.

The Role

This is a pivotal position within the business, ensuring our extensive 30‑acre site remains safe, compliant, efficient, and ready to support continued expansion. Alongside managing day‑to‑day facilities operations, you will play a key role in shaping the long‑term development of the site.

You will work closely with both our Maintenance Manager and Production Manager, supporting day‑to‑day repairs, coordinating planned preventative maintenance, and contributing to the upkeep and development of our sawmilling equipment. The role also involves assisting contractors on site and completing occasional essential work outside normal hours to maintain operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain buildings, land, infrastructure, and equipment across a 30‑acre builders’ merchant site
  • Work to a pre‑planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule to ensure reliability and minimise downtime
  • Respond to day‑to‑day repair needs and support reactive maintenance tasks
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Manager on daily repairs, maintenance activities, and site issues
  • Assist external contractors, ensuring safe systems of work and effective coordination
  • Support site development projects, including layout improvements, new building works, and operational expansions
  • Collaborate with the Production Manager to maintain, repair, and enhance sawmilling equipment
  • Assist in planning and implementing new machinery and production upgrades
  • Complete essential maintenance tasks that may occasionally fall outside normal working hours
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments
  • Maintain accurate documentation, permits, and compliance records
  • Oversee utilities, waste management, security, and access control
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, sustainability, and operational flow

About You

You’ll be a hands‑on, organised professional with the confidence to manage a busy, multi‑use site and the foresight to support long‑term development. You’ll be comfortable working alongside maintenance and production teams and engaging with machinery‑related tasks.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in facilities, estates, or site management
  • Strong understanding of building maintenance, compliance, and site safety
  • Experience managing contractors and overseeing projects
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a live operational environment
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
  • A proactive, decisive approach with the ability to drive improvements

Desirable

  • Experience within builders’ merchants, construction, warehousing, or industrial environments
  • Exposure to plant, machinery, or production equipment maintenance
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and project management
  • Relevant qualifications in facilities management, health & safety, or building services

What C & W Berry Offers

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Bonus holiday scheme
  • Company pension scheme
  • Staff discount scheme
  • The opportunity to influence and shape the future development of a major operational site
  • A stable, supportive working environment within a respected family‑run business
  • Long‑term career prospects as the company continues to grow

Join us in shaping the future of C & W Berry Ltd as our Facilities Manager, bring your expertise to a company that values growth, innovation, and dedicated team members. Ready to make an impact? We look forward to your application!
