Full job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Stock Controller / Buyer to join our established builders merchants team. This role combines stock management responsibilities with purchasing duties, requiring both computer proficiency and hands-on warehouse experience. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in maintaining optimal stock levels while ensuring cost-effective procurement.

Minimum Contract hours: 40, Monday to Friday. Saturday mornings availability required.

Ability to travel to our two Cheshire branches preferred.

Branch Location: MGP Crewe, CW2 7RL

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain optimal stock levels across all product categories
  • Manage computerised stock records and inventory systems
  • Process purchase orders and liaise with suppliers
  • Conduct regular stock counts and reconciliation
  • Analyse sales data and stock movement patterns
  • Coordinate deliveries and manage goods inward processes
  • Handle supplier queries and resolve discrepancies
  • Support warehouse operations as required

Essential Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (intermediate level minimum)
  • Experience with computerised stock management systems
  • Hands-on approach with willingness to work in an external warehouse environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good numerical and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work Saturday mornings when required

Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous experience in builders merchants or construction supply industry
  • Knowledge of building materials and trade products
  • Experience with ERP systems (Kerridge K8 / ERP1 or similar)
  • Forklift licence or willingness to obtain
  • Understanding of purchasing principles and supplier management
