The company has recently moved into a new warehouse operation within Law Distribution and is now entering an important development phase focused on building a highly organised, scalable, and efficient warehouse operation.

About The Role

This is a hands-on warehouse management role with a strong operational focus.

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the day-to-day running of the warehouse whilst helping shape and develop the operation for the future.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Managing Director in helping establish:

The warehouse team currently consists of 3 warehouse operatives plus the Warehouse Manager.

Key Objectives of the Role

Success in this role will include:

  • Improving stock flow and stock accuracy
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and professional warehouse environment
  • Supporting the development and implementation of warehouse systems and procedures
  • Leading and developing the warehouse team
  • Supporting future operational growth

Initial Focus of the Role

Having recently moved into a new warehouse facility, there is significant setup and development work currently underway.

Key initial priorities will include:

  • Reorganising stock locations following recent SKU rationalisation
  • Creating and managing warehouse locations within the WMS
  • Supporting warehouse layout improvements
  • Ensuring stock is accurately located and controlled
  • Improving warehouse flow and operational efficiency
  • Embedding operational standards and consistency across the warehouse team

The warehouse currently operates using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 with an existing warehouse management structure already in place.

Core Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations

  • Oversee the daily running of the warehouse operation
  • Allocate and manage workload across the warehouse team
  • Ensure all daily warehouse activities are completed efficiently and accurately
  • Monitor operational flow throughout the day and adjust priorities where required
  • Maintain high standards of organisation, cleanliness, and presentation throughout the warehouse
  • Ensure all stock and operational areas remain clearly identified and organised

Goods In

  • Manage weekly inbound deliveries from Terma Poland and UK suppliers
  • Ensure all deliveries are accurately checked, booked in, and processed promptly
  • Ensure all incoming stock is correctly labelled and stored within designated locations
  • Coordinate warehouse workload to ensure deliveries are processed before subsequent inbound shipments arrive
  • Maintain clear and organised goods inward procedures

Outbound Operations

  • Oversee the picking, packing, and dispatch process
  • Ensure all same-day dispatch targets are achieved
  • Monitor warehouse accuracy and minimise picking errors
  • Ensure outbound orders are processed correctly within the WMS
  • Maintain efficient workflow across packing stations and dispatch areas
  • Support continuous improvements in outbound efficiency and accuracy

Warehouse Organisation & Standards

  • Maintain a highly organised warehouse environment
  • Ensure all stock has designated locations and is correctly stored
  • Support ongoing warehouse layout improvements and stock reorganisation projects
  • Maintain clear warehouse signage and labelling standards
  • Ensure overstock and bulk storage areas remain organised and clearly identified

Stock Control Support

  • Support stock accuracy and inventory management processes
  • Assist with stock investigations and discrepancies where required
  • Work closely with the Purchasing & Stock Control team to maintain accurate stock records
  • Support regular warehouse audits and stock management activities

Returns Management

  • Oversee the efficient processing of returns
  • Ensure returns are processed within agreed timescales
  • Manage returned stock appropriately depending on return reason
  • Support reduction of returns caused by warehouse error or damage

Team Leadership

  • Lead, organise, and support the warehouse team on a daily basis
  • Maintain a positive and professional working environment
  • Ensure operational standards and procedures are consistently followed
  • Support staff training and development
  • Carry out appraisals, performance reviews, and return-to-work processes where required
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training of new warehouse staff

Procedures & Training

  • Ensure warehouse procedures remain accurate and up to date
  • Support the implementation and ongoing development of operational procedures
  • Ensure all team members are fully trained in relevant warehouse processes
  • Promote consistency and accountability across all operational activities

Courier & Supplier Management

  • Assist in managing relationships with courier and warehouse-related suppliers
  • Monitor courier performance and support reductions in damages and service issues
  • Review operational costs and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements

Health & Safety

  • Support the safe running of the warehouse operation
  • Ensure all warehouse activities comply with health & safety procedures
  • Support forklift truck and MHE safety management
  • Ensure warehouse checks and compliance processes are completed appropriately

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve warehouse efficiency, organisation, and operational flow
  • Support warehouse improvement projects and system developments
  • Work closely with senior management to help develop scalable operational processes

Systems & Equipment

Experience in the following areas would be beneficial:

  • Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
  • Microsoft Dynamics AX
  • Barcode scanning systems
  • Forklift truck operation
  • Warehouse layout and location management

A Flexi Truck licence would be advantageous, although refresher or conversion training can be provided.

  • Strong warehouse planning and organisational ability
  • Experience managing operational workflows
  • Good leadership and people management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good computer literacy including Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • FLT licence and practical experience operating warehouse equipment
  • Ability to work within a fast-moving operational environment
  • Full right to work in the UK
  • Ideally located within reasonable commuting distance of Haydock

Desirable Experience

The following experience would be advantageous but is not essential:

  • Microsoft Dynamics AX
  • Experience within heating, plumbing, radiators, or similar technical products
  • Experience setting up or reorganising warehouse operations
  • Experience implementing warehouse process improvements
