Hours: Monday–Friday 8am–5pm, Saturday 8am–3pm - 46 hours per week

Contract: Self-employed / subcontractor basis (CIS), subject to employment status checks

Pay: Weekly rate £1250, to be confirmed, paid weekly, less CIS deductions where applicable.

A bit about us

We're Pencil and Brick, a London-based Design & Build company specialising in residential renovations, extensions and refurbishments across North and East London.

We're a little different from your typical building company. We have our own team of architects and construction professionals working together under one roof, taking projects from the initial design right through to the finished build.

We're a growing business with a good team of people who take pride in what they do, and we're now looking for another experienced Working Foreman to join our construction team.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for someone who knows residential construction inside out, can run a site properly and isn't afraid to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in.

This is very much a hands-on role. We don't want someone who just stands back and tells everyone else what to do. We need someone who can lead the team, organise the work, solve problems as they arise and still pick up the tools when needed.

Ideally, you'll maybe come from a carpentry background, although we're happy to consider other trades if you've got the right experience.

You'll need to be confident reading drawings, understanding what's required, planning ahead and making sure the work is completed safely, properly and to a high standard.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, cares about the finished result and can be relied upon to get things done.

What you'll be doing

• Running the day-to-day activities on site, keeping the work moving and everyone organised.
• Working alongside the trades and getting hands-on with the build, including first and second fix carpentry where required.
• Co-ordinating labourers, tradespeople and subcontractors.
• Reading architectural and structural drawings and making sure the work is carried out correctly.
• Planning ahead, ordering materials and making sure everything needed is on site when it should be.
• Keeping the site tidy, safe, organised and running efficiently.
• Spotting problems early and working out practical solutions.
• Keeping track of progress, taking site photos and maintaining basic daily records.
• Checking the quality of work and making sure things are finished properly, including snagging.
• Working closely with our Site Managers, Project Managers and in-house Architects.

What you'll need

• At least 5 years' experience working in UK residential construction.
• A solid trade background, ideally carpentry, although other trades will be considered.
• Experience leading people and coordinating work on site.
• Good knowledge of residential refurbishments, extensions and renovation work.
• Confidence reading and working from architectural and structural drawings and specifications.
• The ability to plan ahead, organise materials and keep a job moving.
• A good understanding of site health and safety.
• A valid CSCS card.
• A full UK driving licence.

It would also be great if you have SSSTS, First Aid training or experience working on listed buildings or conservation projects, but these aren't essential.
