Full job description

We are looking for an Assistant General Manager to join the team here at The Bell in Langford. As the Assistant General Manager, you will have the opportunity to make this role your own, working alongside a supportive General Manager, Caelum.

The right candidate will have experience working in pubs, preferably pubs with rooms and have a passion for great food and great service.

We (Pete and Tom) have The Lamb Inn, Shipton-under-Wychwood, The Sherborne Arms, Northleach & The Fox inn, Broadwell, The Tivoli in Cheltenham and The Hawthorn in Shepherds Bush, which have been really successful with great reviews and awards, including GQ best pub of the year 2022, Times best pub of the year 2022 and a Michelin Bib Gourmand at The Bell which we have held for the last five years. We are equally (if not more) happy to say we have built teams both FOH & BOH at both sites that have now been with us a long time.

The Bell is not on good public transport links so the candidate would need to be able to get themselves to and from their shifts.

  • Generous refer a friend bonus scheme
  • Internal transfers and career development across our 6 pubs
  • Excellent training and development plan
  • Regular training outings to our suppliers in The Cotswolds
  • Twice yearly we close all our pubs and host a staff party for all
  • Christmas day off, all businesses are closed

Responsibilities of the Assistant General Manager include:

  • To communicate clearly to all suppliers, staff and customers and to be the focal point for people at the pub.
  • To train and develop all staff and to ensure that they are confident in all areas of the business
  • To ensure the building is maintained to a very high standard
  • To ensure that the business is compliant with all legislation in terms of health, safety and hygiene.
  • To be accountable for efficient running of the business and that targets are met
  • To observe and report issues within the team and rectify where needed.
  • To ensure that all staff are trained in the ethos of the Company;
  • To be an exceptional example to all staff and customers and to be an ambassador to the business when not at work.
