Full job description

Rossall School is among the most successful and prestigious independent boarding and day schools in the North West with flourishing pupil numbers.

We are looking for an experienced Caretaker (full time) to provide an excellent, efficient and friendly caretaking service to Rossall School, including boarding houses, classrooms, offices and grounds.

Hours of work will be 3.00pm - 10.30pm to include a Saturday rota, all year round.

Subsidised accommodation may be available to the successful candidate.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Security

  • Closing, locking and unlocking of School gates and buildings
  • Setting and unsetting of School alarm system
  • Responding to the School alarm, liaising with the police and alarm company
  • Monitoring CCTV
  • Car park monitoring after school and at specific events

General

  • Upkeep and general care of the School
  • Cleaning of internal glass, internal and external door glass, internal side of external windows and external windows at ground level
  • Sweep yards, pick up litter and remove debris from paths, play areas, flower beds, entrances etc
  • General maintenance and minor repair work, e.g. doors, windows, toilet seats, furniture, tap washers, change bulbs etc and some light painting and decoration as appropriate
  • Carrying out fire compliance checks and completing the required paperwork
  • General porterage duties and moving of furniture
  • Preparation of School halls for functions and events
  • Be in attendance at school functions for any requirements that are needed during the event.
  • Receive and check goods and supplies and take to appropriate place for storage
  • Ensure that clear passage is maintained on fire escape routes
  • Make safe any hazards and ensure area is cordoned off
  • Keep paths and entrances free of snow and ice to ensure the safety of children, parents, staff and visitors
  • Carry out periodic cleaning of internal surfaces as directed by Matron

Heating, lighting and water

  • Switching off of lights and appropriate electric plug sockets
  • Ensure all lights are working effectively
  • Turning off and on auto-flushing units each evening during term time and holiday periods as required
  • Read gas, electric and water meters as required
  • Be aware of location of all stopcocks and boilers
  • Replace fluorescent tubes and starters at an appropriate height
  • Turn on boilers as notified of outages

Other

  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, relating all concerns to the appropriate person.
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure equal opportunities for all
  • Appreciate and support the role of other colleagues
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings and training as required
  • Contribute and commit to an inclusive and positive working environment

To carry out any other reasonable requests from the Director of Operations and Matron. This is not an exhaustive list, and will vary as the School’s requirements change.

Holiday entitlement is 25 working days per annum plus Bank Holidays.
