Company Overview

Brancaster Care is dedicated to providing exceptional quality care for elderly residents, including those with dementia-related ailments. Our mission is to create a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment that promotes dignity and well-being for all our residents.

Help create a Safe, Comfortable and Well-Maintained Home for our Residents

We are looking for a practical, proactive and caring Maintenance Officer to join our care home team.

This is much more than a maintenance role. Every repair completed, safety check undertaken and improvement delivered directly contributes to the comfort, dignity, wellbeing and independence of our residents.

You'll play a vital role in ensuring our home remains safe, welcoming, compliant and fully operational, working closely with residents, staff, families, contractors and management to create an environment where people can thrive.

What Success Looks Like

In this role, you will:

  • Ensure residents can safely access and enjoy all areas of the home and grounds.
  • Maintain a high standard of building safety, appearance and functionality.
  • Complete preventative maintenance programmes that minimise breakdowns and disruptions.
  • Identify and resolve maintenance issues quickly and effectively.
  • Ensure the home remains compliant with health and safety regulations and internal policies.
  • Deliver accurate maintenance records, audits and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate contractors and refurbishment projects to a high standard.
  • Build positive relationships with residents, families and colleagues through a helpful and professional approach.
  • Support a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the home.

Key Responsibilities

Maintaining a Safe and Comfortable Environment

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance throughout the home.
  • Complete repairs involving joinery, decorating, tiling, minor plumbing and general building maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot heating systems and resolve minor maintenance issues promptly.
  • Undertake furniture assembly, movement and installation.
  • Maintain external areas, waste management facilities and general site appearance.

Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Take ownership of health and safety checks, audits and compliance activities.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify hazards and reduce risks.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Health and Safety legislation and company policies.
  • Complete annual Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
  • Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance, fire safety and health and safety.
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly and annual compliance tasks and audits.

Managing Contractors and Projects

  • Obtain quotations and coordinate external contractors where specialist works are required.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure works are completed safely and effectively.
  • Support refurbishment and improvement projects across the home.
  • Communicate planned works clearly to minimise disruption to residents and staff.

Supporting the Wider Care Home Team

  • Work closely with the Home Manager and Facilities Manager to prioritise maintenance activities.
  • Build positive relationships with residents, relatives and colleagues.
  • Support occasional operational tasks, including collection of prescriptions or delivery of specimens when required.
  • Provide support to other homes within the group when needed.

About You

You will be someone who takes pride in delivering high-quality work and understands the importance of maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for vulnerable people.

You'll ideally have:

  • Proven experience in building maintenance, facilities management or a similar role.
  • Strong practical skills across general maintenance disciplines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
  • Understanding of plumbing, heating and basic electrical systems.
  • Experience of preventative maintenance and compliance checks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly, professional manner.
  • An understanding of the importance of dignity, respect and resident wellbeing within a care setting.

Why Join Us?

  • Make a genuine difference to residents' quality of life every day.
  • Be part of a supportive and values-driven team.
  • Enjoy a varied role where no two days are the same.
  • Opportunities for training and professional development.
  • Work in an organisation committed to high-quality care, safety and continuous improvement.

If you're a hands-on maintenance professional who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership and making a positive impact, we'd love to hear from you.
