Job Purpose:

To support older and disabled individuals across North Glasgow and Stirling develop essential digital skills, as part of a UK-wide training initiative funded by BT Group.

Principal Accountabilities of the Digital Skills Trainer role:

Community Engagement, Outreach & Relationship Management

  • Proactively identify and engage with potential Community Partners - including charities, local authorities, healthcare providers, residential care services, and neighbourhood groups - to promote the benefits of AbilityNet’s Digital Skills Training programme.
  • Plan, coordinate, and take part in outreach initiatives aimed at increasing community participation and raising awareness of digital training opportunities.
  • Collaborate with local volunteers and corporate partners to enhance delivery and support for participants.
  • Foster and maintain meaningful, long-term partnerships that support continued referrals and contribute to sustained community impact.

Session Coordination:

  • Assist with organising and scheduling training sessions, including managing dates, times, and venues in collaboration with Community Partners to maximise attendance.

Training Delivery:

  • Deliver group and one-to-one digital skills training sessions at various venues across your region.
  • Deliver accessible online training sessions (via Zoom or Teams) to individuals and groups, where appropriate.
  • Encourage and support learners to overcome digital barriers and engage with everyday technology such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other technology.

Digital Skills Support:

  • Support individuals over 55 and / or disabled people to build confidence with core digital skills, including:

- Introduction to technology and the internet

- Using email and basic apps across Apple, Android, and Windows devices

- Online safety and confidence with everyday tech (e.g. smartphones, tablets, laptops)

Impact Monitoring:

  • Ensure timely collection of registration forms and post-session surveys to assess training effectiveness and track project outcomes.

Feedback & Evaluation:

  • Support the collection, analysis, and reporting of feedback and statistical data to help evaluate the effectiveness and impact of training sessions.

Storytelling:

  • Assist in developing case studies to showcase individual journeys and demonstrate the programme’s real impact.

Regional Flexibility:

  • Occasionally travel outside your region to support ad-hoc events and national engagement opportunities.

Other Duties:

  • Carry out additional tasks aligned with the scope of the role, as directed by the Programme Officer or Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

  • Training and facilitation experience: Proven experience of delivering group and 1:1 training or presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Outreach experience: Experience of representing organisations externally, building effective relationships with other organisations or businesses and adapting outreach strategies to suit different contexts.
  • IT proficiency: Strong digital literacy and IT skills, with confidence in using a wide range of technologies including Microsoft Office 365, Apple and Android devices, and associated technologies. Excellent knowledge of assistive technology – hardware & software.
  • Communication skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate learners.
  • Organisation skills: Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
  • Experience of target audience: Experience of working with disabled adults, older people and third sector organisations.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel regularly across the specified region, with occasional travel outside the area as required.
