Full job description

Education Consultancy Services Ltd (ECS) is a growing, independent building consultancy based in Shenfield, Essex. We work with schools, academy trusts and commercial clients across England, delivering Building Surveying, Project Management, Contract Administration and professional consultancy services.

As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an Assistant Building Surveyor with around 2–3 years' experience who is ready to take on greater responsibility and broaden their experience.

This is an opportunity to become part of a small, supportive team where you'll work directly alongside our Directors, gain exposure to the full project lifecycle and develop into a well-rounded Building Surveyor.

Unlike larger consultancies, where your role may be limited to one discipline, you'll be involved in a wide variety of projects including condition surveys, project management, contract administration, technical specifications, funding applications and client meetings. You'll be encouraged to take ownership of your work, build strong client relationships and play an active role in the continued growth of the business.

The Role

Working across both the education and commercial sectors, you'll support the delivery of projects from inception through to completion, helping clients maintain, improve and maximise the value of their property assets.

No two days are the same. One day you may be undertaking condition surveys at a school, the next preparing specifications for refurbishment works, attending client meetings or assisting with project delivery on site.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking condition surveys, measured surveys and building inspections.
  • Preparing technical reports, specifications and schedules of work.
  • Supporting the preparation of DfE funding applications.
  • Acting as Assistant Contract Administrator and supporting Employer's Agent duties.
  • Assisting with the management of projects from inception through to completion.
  • Attending client, design team and site meetings.
  • Liaising with clients, consultants, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Monitoring project progress, quality, budgets and programmes.
  • Ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, current legislation and industry best practice.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships through the delivery of a professional service.

About You

We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, motivated and keen to continue developing their career within a growing consultancy.

You'll ideally have:

  • Approximately 2–3 years' experience within Building Surveying.
  • A degree in Building Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Experience undertaking condition surveys and preparing technical reports.
  • A good understanding of Building Regulations, construction methods and JCT Contracts.
  • Experience using AutoCAD.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • A proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • The unrestricted right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Working towards MRICS chartership.
  • Experience within the education sector.
  • Contract Administration and/or Employer's Agent experience.
  • Experience preparing specifications and tender documentation.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary of £30,000–£35,000, depending on experience.
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Company Pension
  • Flexible hybrid working, combining office, site and home working.
  • Ongoing CPD and professional development.
  • Support towards achieving MRICS chartership ( professional membership fee's paid)
  • Exposure to a diverse range of projects across the education and commercial sectors.
  • A supportive, collaborative and friendly working environment.
  • Genuine opportunities for career progression within a growing consultancy.

Why Join ECS?

If you're looking for a role where you can broaden your experience, work on a diverse range of projects and help shape the future of a growing consultancy, we'd love to hear from you.
