Job Purpose:
Reporting to Home Manager, your focus will be on providing nurturing therapeutic care to children who’ve experienced traumatic life experiences. Day-to-day, that could mean coordinating cooking and cleaning routines, administering medication, and arranging school runs, activities, and appointments – as well as preparing child-centred reports, chairing meetings, and speaking at court cases. It’s shift-based, with late, weekend, Bank Holiday, waking nights, and sleep-in duties. And naturally, we’ll look for you to ensure the home meets legislation, including Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and KerryLynnCare Ltd.’s policies. Ultimately, you’ll be one of the home’s influential champions: supervising care, and giving children the support, they need to thrive.
As part of a defined PACE therapeutic model, we have a highly visible senior management team and extensive staff support structures. This includes group and clinical supervision for all staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a firm, caring, consistent, and well-ordered working environment.
- Supervising children and young people before and after the school/college day including meal times and to proactively support/encourage the development of their cooking skills etc.
- To actively promote and participate in care planning, developing risk assessments, therapeutic behaviour management and to attend regular team meetings.
- Accompanying children and young people on recreational activities and demonstrating positive role modelling.
- Working as part of a team to provide a programme of evening & weekend activities for children and young people and to effectively manage small budgets, in relation to this.
- Promoting the social and emotional well-being & development of children and young people and to consistently strive to further develop these skills.
- Liaising with other staff, professionals, parents, and carers as necessary and maintaining high levels of professionalism at all times.
- Undertaking any administrative tasks linked to the care of children and young people e.g., keeping appropriate records, making reports as required by the Home and any regulatory bodies.
- To maintain a log of all accidents, incidents, or physical intervention and to challenge suspected inappropriate practice according to policies and procedures.
- To participate in case reviews where necessary and to provide support and assistance when difficulties arise.
- Maintain knowledge of, and adherence to, the home's policies.
- To assist in developing strategies in therapeutic behaviour management and to take a lead role in managing the young person’s difficult behaviour, implementing the strategies agreed. Assisting with the medical and physical needs of children and young people. This is done to ensure that all young people are encouraged to take part at some level, no matter what their ability. Encouragement of young people to reach their own goals.
- Protecting and promoting the welfare of children and young people whom the jobholder has direct responsibility for or comes into contact with. Staying up to date with safeguarding policies and legislation is part of this process.
- Ensuring healthcare needs of the children and young people are met, including making appointments and accompanying them and completing written reports following their attendance. To ensure all medical and clinical procedures are carried out safely (undergoing any relevant training to enhance your skills).
- To report immediately to management any noticeable changes in health, behaviour or circumstances of our children and young people – maintaining their right to privacy and confidentiality.
- To be a key member of the care team and can work within a team.
- To be innovative, creative, and flexible, and has an open mind and a willingness to learn.
- Able to demonstrate empathy, sensitivity, self-awareness, and acceptance of others.
Other Duties:
- To participate in annual performance appraisals and undertake relevant staff development.
