Full job description

Job Title: Machine Operative
Company: Zeus Media Limited
Location: WS9 8BZ (On-site)
Shifts: Full-Time — Weekly rotation: 6am–2pm / 2pm–10pm
Salary Band: £27,500 - £32500, Dependant on experience.

Zeus Media Limited is a market-leading label manufacturer, operating some of the most advanced finishing machinery in the industry. Our success comes from hard work, attention to detail, and a genuine can-do attitude shared by everyone in the building. If someone needs help, anyone — from any department — will step in. That’s the culture we protect.

This is a hands-on, physical, mechanically orientated role, ideal for someone practical, switched-on, and confident working with machinery.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing Day-to-Day

This isn’t a button-pressing job — you will be responsible for understanding, organising, setting up, running, and maintaining complex production machinery.

1. Understanding the Job

Each job starts with:

  • Reading the job bag
  • Understanding customer specifications, quantities, materials, tooling and plates, and winding instructions
  • Planning the full setup and sequence of the run

2. Organising the Setup

You’ll work with teammates to organise and prepare:

  • Stock rolls (paper/film)
  • Flexible dies and tooling
  • Print plates
  • Magnetic cylinders
  • Cores, boxes, pallets
  • Turret rewinder setup and programming
  • Mechanical adjustments required for the run

Timing and coordination are key — everything must be in the right place at the right moment.

3. Preparing the Machine

You will carry out a full, hands-on setup, including:

  • Loading heavy material splits onto the machine
  • Lifting magnetic cylinders using overhead cranes
  • Fitting flexible tooling and print plates
  • Positioning dies accurately
  • Setting the web path and tension
  • Making mechanical adjustments for register, pressure and alignment
  • Programming turret rewinders to exact job specifications

4. Running the Job

Once running, you will:

  • Continuously monitor quality
  • Check register, die pressure, rewinding, waste stripping, and consistency
  • Make ongoing pressure, tension, and guide adjustments
  • React quickly to any changes affecting quality or efficiency

5. End-of-Run Tasks

  • Completing job paperwork
  • Cleaning the machine down
  • Stripping tools and preparing for the next setup
  • Leaving the area clean and production-ready

With training, this role can progress to running full lines or overseeing sections of the factory.

What We’re Looking For

Experience is helpful — but attitude is essential.

You must be:

  • Mechanically minded
  • Hands-on and comfortable with physical work
  • A fast learner
  • Focused, organised, and reliable
  • Able to work well in a team environment
  • Someone who takes pride in doing things properly

If you enjoy practical, mechanical work and like being part of a fast-paced, supportive team, you’ll thrive here.

Requirements

  • Experience with machinery or mechanical work preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Good attention to detail
  • Physically fit (lifting and standing required)
  • Comfortable working independently once trained
  • Strong communication skills
  • English required

Benefits

  • Bonus scheme
  • Full uniform provided
  • 28 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Extensive training and genuine progression opportunities
  • Supportive team environment
  • Clean, modern factory
  • Free on-site parking

Work Location: WS9 8BZ — must be able to commute reliably or relocate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £27,500.00-£32,500.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Bereavement leave
  • Canteen
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking
  • Profit sharing

Work Location: In person
