Full job description

Mechanical Project Manager

Location: Leicester initially, then Wiltshire
Start: November 2026
Duration: 9 months
Mechanical package value: £1.5m

The opportunity

We are recruiting an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to deliver a £1.5m mechanical package on a new-build prison project in Wiltshire, with an initial period on a live project in Leicester to familiarise yourself with the installation before taking responsibility for your own delivery.

Starting in November 2026, you will join the team on a project nearing completion in Leicester. This will give you the opportunity to see the mechanical installation first-hand, understand how it has been delivered and learn from the team’s practical experience.

From January 2027, you will move to the Wiltshire project to manage a similar installation, applying that knowledge to the planning, coordination and delivery of the £1.5m mechanical package.

This initial period is a valuable introduction to the work you will be managing: time to understand the installation, identify lessons learned and build familiarity with the company’s delivery approach before taking ownership on site.

Your responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the £1.5m mechanical package through to completion.
  • Use the initial Leicester phase to understand the installation, delivery sequence and practical lessons relevant to Wiltshire.
  • Manage mechanical subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Plan and monitor programme, procurement, costs and progress.
  • Coordinate mechanical works with other trades and the wider construction team.
  • Maintain quality and health and safety standards.
  • Attend project meetings and liaise with clients and stakeholders.
  • Oversee testing, commissioning, snagging and handover.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Manager, or an M&E/Building Services Project Manager with a strong mechanical background.
  • Experience delivering substantial mechanical packages on construction projects.
  • A good understanding of programme management, procurement and commercial control.
  • Strong subcontractor management and site coordination skills.
  • Clear communication, good organisation and the ability to take responsibility for delivery.
  • Availability to work initially in Leicester, then in Wiltshire from January 2027.

Experience in prison, custodial, secure environment, healthcare or public-sector projects would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Why consider this role?

This is an opportunity to take responsibility for a defined mechanical package with the benefit of seeing a comparable installation before your own project begins. You will arrive in Wiltshire with practical knowledge of the work, insight from the Leicester team and a stronger foundation for successful delivery.

Apply with your CV to discuss the role and project details.

Pay: £325.00-£350.00 per day

Benefits:

  • On-site parking

Work Location: In person
