Job Specification: Accountant – Head Office, Group Operations
Overview:
An exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Accountant to join a dynamic, family-run group of companies with a diverse portfolio. The group primarily operates in the hospitality sector, with a focus on hotels, alongside investment properties and retail operations.
We’re seeking an experienced and meticulous professional who wants to make a real impact within a growing business. The role offers the chance to work with innovative tools like Power BI, as we implement management reporting systems. Experience in business intelligence (BI) software is a plus.
This position is based in our head office, conveniently located with excellent public transport links. The role is primarily office-based (Monday to Friday) with the option for virtual working as more responsibilities are taken on.

- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a small team effectively.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to perform under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
- Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Analytical and methodical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting standards and procedures.
- High-level computer literacy and proficiency with accounting software.
- Superior organizational and time management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Core Accounting Duties:
- Maintaining accurate records using Sage 50.
- Reconciliation of aged creditors and debtors, bank accounts, credit cards, wages, and loans.
- Posting journal entries across multiple company account ledgers.
- Preparing quarterly VAT returns and ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Producing monthly management accounts and budgets.
- Year-end journal adjustments and account preparation.
- Managing sales and purchase ledger reconciliations.
- Coordinating payroll and bulk payment processing using Sage Epay.
- Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Utilizing BI tools like Power BI (or similar, e.g., Tableau) for reporting and insights.
- Contributing to the implementation and optimization of management reports.
- Other Administrative & Strategic Responsibilities:
- Supporting the team with financial forecasts and budgeting.
- Managing workflows in a paperless software environment.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- ACA, ACCA, or AAT qualification with 3+ years of post-qualification experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Sage 50 and related bookkeeping tools.
- Proficiency in using Power BI or similar BI/data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including formulae, pivot tables, and dashboards.
- Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
