Transport Planner – General Haulage
Salary: £32,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 18:00
Location: Scunthorpe

We are a well-established and growing general haulage company operating a fleet of 20 vehicles, supported by a trusted network of subcontractors. Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced and proactive Transport Planner to join our operations team.

This is a key position within the business, responsible for ensuring the efficient, compliant, and profitable planning of our transport operations while delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, allocate, and monitor daily workloads for company vehicles and subcontractors.
  • Source and secure profitable backloads to maximise fleet utilisation and revenue.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
  • Ensure full compliance with UK transport legislation, Drivers' Hours Regulations, Working Time Directive, and Operator Licence requirements.
  • Liaise effectively with drivers, customers, and subcontractors to resolve operational issues quickly and professionally.
  • Monitor vehicle movements and proactively manage any service disruptions.
  • Maintain accurate transport records using the company's Transport Management System (TMS).
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer service.
  • Work closely with the wider operations team to support the continued growth of the business.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Transport Planner within the UK general haulage sector.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK transport legislation, compliance, and driver regulations.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify and secure profitable backloads.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident using transport planning software and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional, customer-focused approach with the ability to build long-term relationships.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday 09:00 – 18:00 (additional weekend work may be required)
  • Participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota is required to provide operational support outside normal business hours. This will be shared across the planning team and compensated in line with company policy.
