Full job description

Fire & Security / AV Installation Engineer

Full-Time | Permanent| Blackpool Based | UK-Wide Projects | Regular Working Away

Overview

Electrical Mechanical Building Services (EMBS) is looking for an experienced Fire & Security / AV Installation Engineer to join our growing installation team.

This is a hands-on role working across commercial projects throughout the UK. The position will primarily involve commercial audio and AV installations, alongside opportunities to work on fire alarm, security, data and other specialist systems.

We are particularly interested in people from a Fire & Security background. Experience installing fire alarms, CCTV, access control, intruder systems or similar equipment provides an excellent foundation for the work we undertake.

You do not need to be a fully qualified electrician. We’re looking for someone who is technically minded, practical, reliable and takes pride in producing high-quality installations.

The Role

Your work will include:

  • Installation of commercial audio, AV, fire and security systems
  • First and second fix cabling, including installation, dressing and termination
  • Installation of speakers, detectors, cameras, access control equipment and other field devices
  • Installation of containment and cable management systems
  • Reading drawings, schematics and installation information
  • Testing, basic fault finding and resolving installation issues
  • Working from ladders, podiums, towers and powered access equipment where appropriately trained
  • Completing installation photographs and basic project documentation
  • Working closely with Project Managers, clients and other contractors to deliver projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard

The role is predominantly installation focused, so we’re looking for someone who enjoys being on the tools and getting projects completed.

Experience

Previous experience in one or more of the following would be ideal:

  • Fire & Security installation
  • Fire alarm systems
  • CCTV and access control
  • Commercial AV/audio systems
  • Data or structured cabling
  • Commercial electrical installation

You should be confident using hand and power tools, installing cabling and equipment, reading drawings and working independently when required.

Specific AV experience is not essential. If you already have strong installation skills within Fire & Security or a similar industry, training can be provided on the systems we install.

Working Away

Regular UK travel and working away are an important part of this position.

EMBS is based in Blackpool and some projects will be within Lancashire and the North West. However, we deliver projects throughout the UK and the successful candidate must be genuinely comfortable staying away from home when required.

The amount of working away will vary depending on the project schedule. Some weeks may be local, while others may involve several nights away.

Accommodation will be arranged/provided by the company when working away, alongside the applicable expenses and subsistence arrangements.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, practical and takes pride in their work.

You should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, communicating professionally with clients and site management, solving problems on site and taking responsibility for the quality of your installations.

A full UK driving licence is essential.

Due to projects being undertaken within schools and education environments, the successful candidate must also be willing and able to undergo an Enhanced DBS check before undertaking relevant work.

A current Enhanced DBS registered with the DBS Update Service would be advantageous but is not essential.

Qualifications

Relevant industry experience is more important to us than having every qualification listed below.

The following would be advantageous:

  • ECS/CSCS
  • IPAF
  • PASMA
  • Fire alarm or Fire & Security qualifications
  • Electrical qualifications
  • Manufacturer-specific training
  • Enhanced DBS / DBS Update Service

Additional training can be provided for the right candidate.

Package

£34,000–£38,000 basic salary, depending on experience.

The package includes:

  • Company van and fuel card
  • Company tools, uniform and PPE
  • Accommodation when working away
  • Working-away/subsistence arrangements
  • Overtime opportunities where available
  • Training and development
  • Permanent employment
  • Opportunity to progress as EMBS expands its installation teams

About EMBS

We work across electrical, fire alarm, data, security, AV and specialist building systems and are continuing to expand our directly employed installation teams.

We’re looking for someone who wants to become a long-term part of the business and develop with us as we grow.

Please note: This position involves regular UK travel and overnight stays. Please only apply if you are comfortable with working away from home as a normal part of the role.

Pay: From £40,000.00 per year

Work Location: On the road
