Structured Cabling & Network Installation Engineer
Structured Cabling & Network Installation Engineer
Job details
Full job description
About Switch Networks
Switch Networks Ltd has over 20 years’ experience delivering connectivity, telecommunications, IT support, structured cabling, wireless networks and CCTV solutions to businesses nationwide.
We’re a small but growing team that takes pride in delivering quality installations and looking after our customers. Our projects cover a wide range of commercial environments, including offices, schools, hospitality venues and industrial premises.
The role
We’re looking for an experienced Structured Cabling & Network Installation Engineer who already has hands-on experience installing data cabling within commercial buildings.
You’ll be involved in installing Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6A cabling, containment, network cabinets and associated equipment, alongside projects involving fibre, Wi-Fi, CCTV and VoIP systems.
This is a customer-facing role. You’ll represent Switch Networks on site, communicate clearly with customers and work considerately around their staff and day-to-day operations. A neat installation, a professional manner and a tidy handover are all essential parts of the job.
No two days are the same. You’ll need to enjoy practical work, take ownership of your tasks and be comfortable travelling and staying away from home when projects require it.
Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, label and test structured data cabling within commercial premises.
- Install cable containment, including tray, basket, trunking and conduit.
- Install and dress network cabinets, patch panels and associated equipment.
- Identify and resolve cabling faults, recording test results and completing installation documentation.
- Install and assist with the configuration of wireless access points, CCTV and VoIP equipment.
- Work from drawings and agreed project scopes, raising questions or changes with the team before proceeding.
- Keep customers informed about progress and coordinate work to minimise disruption.
- Follow safe working practices and maintain a clean, organised working area.
- Work independently and alongside colleagues to complete projects to a high standard.
Essential experience and qualities
- Proven experience installing Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6A structured cabling in commercial buildings.
- Practical experience terminating cabling at patch panels and outlets, testing installations and identifying faults.
- Experience installing tray, basket, trunking and conduit.
- Experience installing network cabinets, with neat cable management and clear labelling.
- A professional, customer-focused approach and confidence communicating with customers on site.
- Ability to organise your work, solve practical problems and recognise when to ask for guidance.
- A full, clean UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel and stay away throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland.
- An IPAF qualification, or willingness to obtain one.
Commercial structured cabling experience is essential. Experience solely in external telecoms infrastructure, domestic broadband installation or Openreach access networks would not meet the requirements of this role.
Desirable skills
- Fibre optic installation, splicing and testing.
- Experience using a cable certification tester and producing test reports.
- Installation and commissioning of wireless networks and CCTV systems.
- Familiarity with network equipment and VoIP systems.
- A CSCS or ECS card.
What we’re looking for
You’ll take pride in producing tidy, reliable installations and understand that how you work with customers matters just as much as the finished result.
We can provide training in our wider network, Wi-Fi, CCTV and VoIP solutions, so you don’t need to be an expert in every service we offer. However, you must bring practical commercial cabling experience, a positive attitude and the ability to deliver professional work from day one.
What we offer
- A salary of £30,000–£40,000, depending on experience.
- Overtime and overnight allowances.
- Company vehicle, depending on the role.
- Ongoing training and opportunities to broaden your technical skills.
- Varied commercial projects across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
- A friendly, supportive environment within a small, growing team.
- Company pension.
- On-site parking.
If you have the commercial cabling experience we’re looking for and enjoy delivering work you can be proud of, we’d love to hear from you. Please apply with your CV and a brief outline of the installations you’ve worked on.
Pay: £30,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company pension
- On-site parking
Application question(s):
- Have you worked with data cable in a commercial setting?
Work Location: In person
