About Express Solutions Group

Express Solutions Group is a growing specialist services group supporting domestic, commercial, and blue-chip clients across drainage, civils, surveys, tanker services, hydro cutting, planned preventative maintenance, and wider infrastructure solutions.

We invest in people, specialist equipment, training, and safe working practices so our teams can deliver reliable, high-quality work across a wide range of projects. Our culture is built around professionalism, service, technical knowledge, and doing the job properly.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Groundworker to join our Civils team.

-

About the Role

As a Groundworker – Civils & Drainage Team, you will support a variety of groundworks, drainage, and civil engineering projects across commercial and domestic sites. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in accurate, tidy, safe, and reliable work.

You will be part of a busy operational team where your workmanship directly supports the successful delivery of drainage installations, reinforced concrete works, kerbing, paving, ducting, footings, and excavation projects.

This role is well suited to someone with proven civils experience who wants steady work, varied projects, additional hours where available, and opportunities to build further qualifications within a growing company.

-

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Carry out drainage excavations, repairs, installations, and reinstatement works.
  • Install and repair underground drainage systems, pipework, manholes, and chambers.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and small plant safely.
  • Complete reinstatement works including tarmac, concrete, block paving, and soft landscaping.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and company standards at all times.
  • Complete job sheets and site paperwork accurately.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and tidy condition.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and communicate professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Travel to customer sites and undertake overtime where required.
  • Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role.

-

Essential Experience and Qualifications

You will need:

  • Previous experience as a Groundworker or General Operative within the drainage, construction, utilities, or civil engineering sector.
  • Experience carrying out excavation, drainage repairs, and reinstatement works.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and small plant safely.
  • Good understanding of safe digging practices and general health and safety on site.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills when working with colleagues, supervisors, clients, and other contractors.
  • Ability to complete job sheets and basic site paperwork accurately.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional approach to work.
  • Physically fit and able to undertake manual work in all weather conditions.
  • Right to live and work in the UK.

-

Desirable Experience

The following would be beneficial but are not essential:

  • CSCS Card.
  • Previous experience within the drainage industry.
  • Experience laying, repairing, or replacing underground drainage systems.
  • Experience with excavation and reinstatement, including tarmac, concrete, block paving, and footpaths.
  • Experience installing manholes, chambers, gullies, and associated pipework.
  • NRSWA Street Works qualification.
  • Confined Space Training.
  • High-Pressure Water Jetting certificate.
  • CPCS or NPORS qualification for excavators, dumpers, rollers, or other plant.
  • Cat & Genny qualification.
  • First Aid at Work qualification.
  • Experience working in drainage, utilities, highways, construction, facilities management, or industrial services.
  • Experience operating mini excavators or other small plant.
  • Trailer towing licence (B+E) or other relevant driving qualifications.

-

What We Offer

  • Competitive day rate of £200–£260.00, depending on experience and tickets.
  • High volume of work available, with additional hours available where operationally suitable.
  • Work across varied civils and drainage projects, not the same job every day.
  • Company vehicle and fuel support for work duties where applicable to the role.
  • Opportunities to develop further tickets, site experience, and specialist drainage knowledge.
  • A growing company with clear demand for skilled, reliable operatives.
  • Supportive supervisors and experienced operational teams.
  • A professional environment where good workmanship is valued.

-

Career Development

Express Solutions Group continues to grow across drainage, civils, commercial infrastructure, tanker services, CCTV surveys, hydro-cutting, and planned maintenance. For the right person, this creates opportunities to progress into more senior site roles, specialist drainage work, plant operation, supervisory responsibilities, or additional technical training.

We value people who are reliable, safety-conscious, willing to learn, and serious about developing their trade.

-

Who This Role Suits

This role would suit someone who:

  • Has strong hands-on groundworks experience.
  • Wants consistent work with the option of additional hours.
  • Takes pride in safe, tidy, accurate work.
  • Is comfortable working on different sites and project types.
  • Communicates well with supervisors, clients, and other trades.
  • Wants to build a longer-term career with a growing specialist company.
