NHS Catering Assistant – high‑volume service and catering

Shifts: 5 days over 7, including weekends
Shift times: 06:00–14:00 and 11:00–19:00

We’re recruiting Catering Assistants to join the high-volume hospital catering service at Pinderfields Hospital, part of Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a fast-paced, physical role in a high-pressure healthcare environment, supporting food service for 2,500–5,000 customers per day.

You’ll work across a wide variety of catering functions including food preparation, service counters, tills, regeneration, cleaning and customer service. This is a hands-on, active role requiring stamina, speed, reliability and the ability to perform well under pressure while maintaining excellent standards of hygiene, safety and service.

This position is offered on a temporary Bank basis through NHS Professionals, providing flexible working and regular shifts.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high-volume food service in busy hospital catering areas
  • Provide efficient, friendly customer service during peak periods
  • Support food preparation, regeneration and service delivery
  • Operate tills and counters (barista experience desirable)
  • Maintain strict food hygiene, safety and compliance standards
  • Carry out cleaning and stock duties across service areas
  • Work flexibly across multiple catering functions

Essential experience & requirements

  • Experience in fast-paced catering or hospitality (cafés, restaurants, pubs, contract catering, large food outlets)
  • Level 2 Food Safety/Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Strong customer service and food handling experience
  • Availability for early starts, weekends and Bank Holidays
  • Successful DBS check required
