Overview
We are looking for a friendly, dependable, and customer-focused Bakery Assistant to join our team in a busy local bakery in Northern Ireland. The ideal candidate will be passionate about great customer service, have an interest in baked goods, and be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. You will serve customers at the counter, package freshly baked products, and ensure the shop is clean, well-stocked, and welcoming.

Working times: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Saturdays.

Flexibility to work additional hours across holidays when required.

Job role

  • Greet and serve customers in a warm, friendly, and professional manner
  • Advise customers on product choices, including ingredients and allergens
  • Operate the till system accurately and handle cash/card transactions
  • Slice, bag, label, and package baked goods for sale or takeaway
  • Set up attractive product displays and replenish stock throughout the day
  • Maintain cleanliness of the counter, display areas, and customer seating (if applicable)
  • Monitor product quality and remove items past their best
  • Assist with stock rotation and checking deliveries against order sheets
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and health & safety procedures in line with UK standards
  • Handle customer orders and pre-orders professionally and efficiently
  • Cashing up till at end of night and handling money.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Basic numeracy and till operation skills
  • Ability to work on your feet in a busy environment
  • Good attention to detail when handling and packaging products
  • Punctual, dependable, and team-oriented attitude
  • Awareness of food hygiene and cleanliness standards

Desirable Attributes

  • Previous experience in a bakery, deli, café, or food retail setting
  • Knowledge of bakery products
  • Experience with allergen handling and food labelling

Pay: £12.71 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Donaghadee BT21 0AQ: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
