Full job description

Days Cafe is a busy, independent cafe in the heart of York City Centre with two locations on Parliament Street and Petergate. We serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, homemade scones, cakes, pastries, great coffee and a selection of alcohol. We take pride in delivering a warm, welcoming experience to every guest, every day.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced FOH Supervisor to join our team in our York City Centre Cafe. You will support the management team in the smooth running of daily operations, leading the front of house team to deliver consistently excellent service. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who leads by example and thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support front of house staff during shifts, ensuring high standards of service throughout
  • Open and close the cafe, following all relevant procedures
  • Handle cash, card transactions and end-of-day till reconciliation accurately
  • Assist with staff briefings, delegating tasks and managing the team on shift
  • Ensure all areas are clean, well-stocked and presented to a high standard
  • Act as the first point of contact for customer queries or complaints, resolving issues professionally and promptly
  • Monitor and maintain food safety and hygiene standards in line with legislation
  • Support with stock management, including deliveries and rotation
  • Report any maintenance, staffing or operational issues to the management team

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a hospitality or food and beverage environment
  • Previous supervisory or team leader experience is essential
  • Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • A natural leader who can motivate a team and remain calm under pressure
  • Good knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
  • Reliable, flexible and a strong work ethic
  • Weekend availability is essential
