About PAUL UK
PAUL began as a small family bakery in Lille, France, and has grown into a global name in traditional French baking. Since arriving in the UK in 2000, we’ve built our reputation as the world’s local French bakery. Our people are the heart of our success—and we’d love you to be part of our story.
Our Bakery Café at 2 Paternoster Square is the perfect place to sit and contemplate the glory that is St. Paul’s Cathedral. Situated right next door to Christopher Wren’s masterpiece, with a terrace overlooking Paternoster Row, it couldn’t be a more perfect location. This is the fourth cathedral to be built on this site. In 1663, three years after the restoration of the monarchy, Christopher Wren was approached to survey the existing cathedral and suggest how best to repair and refurbish it. His plans were accepted in 1666, just 6 days before the Great Fire of London broke out and destroyed the existing building. As Wren had wanted to demolish and rebuild from scratch, this allowed him to do just that. Remarkably, St. Paul’s Cathedral was built over a period of just 35 years under the supervision of one master builder, Thomas Strong, and one architect, Wren himself, who also built more than 50 other churches from 1666 onwards. Also nearby is the London Stock Exchange, The Old Bailey and the Millennium Footbridge providing a link to Tate Modern and all the fascinating history of Southwark. The closest station is St. Paul’s (Central Line).
