Assistant General Manager / Restaurant Manager — The Talli Queen

Location: The Talli Queen, 412 Uxbridge Rd, London W12 0NR

Start date: ASAP

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and driven Assistant General Manager / Restaurant Manager to help lead the floor at The Talli Queen, a striking new high-end pub set within a Grade II listed building. The name says it all — "Talli" is Hindi slang for tipsy, and the pub takes its spirit from Varuni, the Hindu goddess of wine, celebration and pleasure. Paired with a seasonal Indian menu from Head Chef Avi (formerly of Pahli Hill and River Cafe), this is a pub built on seasonal flavours, great wine and a genuine love of hospitality.

Working closely with the General Manager, you'll take ownership of service on the floor — leading shifts, supporting the team, and ensuring every guest has an exceptional experience from the moment they arrive. This is a brilliant opportunity for a hands-on hospitality professional ready to step up and help shape a new venue from day one.

Job Summary

The Assistant General Manager / Restaurant Manager supports the General Manager in the smooth, profitable day-to-day running of The Talli Queen. They take the lead on the floor during service, deputise for the General Manager in their absence, and help ensure the team consistently delivers an exceptional guest journey.

Key Responsibilities

Team Management

  • Support the General Manager in coaching and developing the team to meet company standards
  • Lead shift briefings and support ongoing training in partnership with the General Manager and Head Chef Avi
  • Help recruit and onboard front-of-house team members
  • Deputise for the General Manager in their absence, ensuring consistent standards and decision-making
  • Support a positive, motivated team culture and high morale
  • Monitor staff appearance and conduct, taking action where needed
  • Support HR administration, including rotas, holiday requests, and record-keeping

Health & Safety

  • Be aware of and adhere to licensing, data protection, Health & Safety at Work, and COSHH legislation at all times
  • Support risk assessments to ensure the safety of staff and guests
  • Follow all company security procedures, including loss prevention and the security of staff and premises
  • Report and help manage maintenance issues, liaising with contractors where needed

Customer Service

  • Lead service on the floor, ensuring consistently high standards and an exceptional guest experience
  • Handle guest feedback in the moment, resolving issues quickly and professionally
  • Support the General Manager in managing reservations and maximising covers without compromising standards
  • Ensure the team is fully briefed on service standards and procedures each shift

Financial Management

  • Support the General Manager in managing stock control, including stock counts, line checks, and wastage reporting
  • Help monitor labour costs and ensure shifts are run efficiently against rota and budget
  • Support cash handling procedures and end-of-shift reconciliation
  • Assist with supplier and delivery management, including checking in orders and stock security
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and licensing laws at all times

Marketing

  • Support the delivery of marketing and PR activity on the ground, including in-venue events
  • Act as a brand ambassador for The Talli Queen, both in and out of service

Developing the Brand

  • Support Head Chef Avi and the General Manager in keeping menus and drinks lists updated, with attention to seasonal availability
  • Build relationships with regular guests to help develop a loyal local following
  • Bring ideas and feedback from the floor to help continually improve the guest experience
