Overview

Join our small, friendly, and informal café team at Greenwich Carers Centre. Nestled within a beautiful heritage building, our community café is a welcoming space where unpaid carers from across the Royal Borough of Greenwich can relax, connect, and enjoy a moment of respite. Opening onto a charming garden, the café also plays a central role in the charity's events, seasonal celebrations, and summer garden parties for carers.

This role offers fixed weekly hours, working one day alongside another Café Supervisor who leads the café during the remaining four days each week. Additional hours are available on a flexible basis to support busy periods, special events, and other charitable activities.

Serving a range of homemade daily specials alongside a coffee shop-style menu of light meals, snacks, and refreshments, our café is much more than somewhere to eat and drink. It is a valued part of the support we provide to carers and is known for its warm, friendly atmosphere and community spirit.

As Café Supervisor, you will play an important part in the day-to-day running of the café, helping to create a welcoming environment where every visitor feels valued. If you enjoy working with people, take pride in excellent customer service, and are passionate about making a positive difference in your local community, we would love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the café during designated shifts, ensuring a welcoming, safe, and professional environment for carers, visitors, volunteers, and staff.

  • Deliver excellent customer service, creating a warm, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere where all visitors feel valued and supported.
  • Ensure food hygiene, health and safety, and cleanliness standards are maintained at all times in accordance with current legislation and organisational policies.
  • Manage stock levels, monitor usage, and assist with ordering supplies to ensure the café is well-stocked and operates efficiently.
  • Operate the till and cash handling processes accurately, maintaining records and following financial procedures.
  • Open and close the café as required, carrying out all associated checks, cleaning, and security procedures.
  • Support the planning and delivery of events, meetings, garden parties, and other activities held by Greenwich Carers Centre.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, and charity staff to ensure the café supports the wider aims and activities of the organisation.
  • Assist with the development of menus and seasonal offerings, taking account of customer feedback, dietary requirements, and cost considerations.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and attractive café and garden-facing service area.
  • Promote the services and activities of Greenwich Carers Centre where appropriate and signpost carers to additional support available through the charity.
  • Contribute ideas to improve the customer experience, increase engagement, and support the sustainability of the café.
  • Provide flexible cover for additional shifts, events, and busy periods where reasonably required.

As a Member of the Greenwich Carers Centre Team

  • Act as an ambassador for Greenwich Carers Centre, demonstrating its values and commitment to supporting unpaid carers.
  • Treat all carers, visitors, colleagues, volunteers, and partners with dignity, respect, and compassion.
  • Participate in training, team meetings, and supervision as required.
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably commensurate with the responsibilities of the role.
