Café Chef / Head Cook – Shanahans Café (Aston, Birmingham)

Shanahans is a busy and welcoming café based in Aston, Birmingham, known for delivering exceptional customer service and high-quality food. Our menu focuses on freshly prepared breakfasts, lunches, sandwiches, and light meals, with a strong emphasis on flavour, presentation, and quality ingredients.

We are currently looking for an experienced Café Chef / Head Cook to join our kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about food, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is eager to contribute to the growth of the business.

Role Overview

As a key member of the kitchen, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting a wide variety of breakfast and lunch dishes to a consistently high standard. You will play an important role in the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring quality, efficiency, and cleanliness at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook breakfast and lunch dishes to a high standard
  • Ensure excellent presentation and attention to detail on every plate
  • Manage multiple orders efficiently during busy service periods
  • Complete daily food preparation and ensure kitchen readiness
  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, and allergen procedures
  • Assist with stock control, rotation, ordering, and deliveries
  • Maintain accurate kitchen records and daily checklists
  • Keep the kitchen clean, organised, and fully compliant
  • Work closely with colleagues and management to ensure smooth service
  • Contribute ideas for menu improvements and seasonal specials

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a professional kitchen
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene, safety, and allergen management
  • Knowledge of stock control and kitchen organisation
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Reliable, punctual, and hardworking
  • Ability to work independently when required

Job Details

  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Contract: Full-time, permanent
  • Pay: £14–£15 per hour
  • Weekend availability required
