Full job description

Oriole Cafe is busy, community focussed, family run cafe at the Kent cricket ground, known for our warm atmosphere, quality coffee, and great food. Running as a cafe serving the general public all year round, alongside operating during matches and events at Kent Cricket ground.

We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Café Manager to work alongside the owners and the Kitchen Manager to oversee daily operations, lead our team and continue to deliver the exceptional experience our customers love.

We’re looking for a dedicated and hands-on Café Manager to inspire our team of staff, and ensure top-notch customer service. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be actively involved in all aspects of the café - from making drinks and serving customers, training and supporting your team to managing stock & placing orders. If you’re passionate about coffee, customer experience, and all round hospitality, this could be the perfect role for you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Be the face of the café, greeting customers, taking orders, and ensuring every guest leaves with a smile. Handle any customer inquiries or issues with a friendly, solution-focused approach.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and manage the team. Schedule shifts, manage daily tasks, and ensure a positive work environment where team members can thrive.
  • Training and Development: Provide hands-on training for new staff and ongoing development for the team, focusing on customer service, drink quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Daily Operations: Oversee daily setup, stock levels, and café cleanliness, ensuring everything runs smoothly during service hours, spending the majority of your time on the café floor, engaging with customers and supporting your team.
  • Quality Control: Working alongside the kitchen manager to ensure all food and drink items meet our quality standards, and all food safety regulations are being adhered to.
  • Cafe Administrative Work: Managerial administrative tasks, to include: Rotas, weekly reporting to cafe owners, stock control & ordering.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Proven experience in a café, restaurant, or similar environment, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Customer-Focused: A passion for customer service with a friendly and welcoming demeanour.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to lead by example, motivate a team, and create a positive work environment.
  • Hands-On Approach: Willingness to get involved in every aspect of café operations, from making drinks to washing up.
  • Organisational Skills: Strong organisational skills to manage schedules, inventory, and daily operations effectively.
  • Flexibility: Availability to work weekends, holidays, and peak times as needed.

What we offer:

Oriole Cafe is part of the wider DASS Hospitality group with various other venues and projects. This role (whilst being primarily focussed at Oriole cafe), gives the right candidate the opportunity to be involved in various other exciting projects if they wished.

The role is open to part and full time applications with an expected minimum of 30 hours per week.

If you’re ready to bring your passion for Hospitality to Oriole we’d love to hear from you!
