Fryer / Fish & Chip Shop Team Member

We are looking for a reliable, hard-working person to join our team at our busy fish and chip shop in Harpenden.

The main part of the role will be learning to fry fish and chips to a high standard, but the job will also include customer service, food preparation, cleaning, and general kitchen duties.

You do not need previous frying experience, as full training will be given. Experience in hospitality, catering, kitchens, takeaways, restaurants, cafés, pubs, or similar would be helpful, but the right attitude is more important.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work. Our shop has a strong reputation, and consistency really matters to us. We need someone who will care about the food they are serving, follow our processes, and not cut corners, even when it gets busy.

This is a customer-facing role, so you must be polite, personable, and comfortable dealing with customers as part of the team.

Main responsibilities

The role will include:

• Frying fish, chips, and other menu items once trained
• Serving customers politely and professionally
• Preparing food before and during service
• Keeping the kitchen and work areas clean and organised
• Following food hygiene and safety procedures
• Working as part of a team during busy periods
• Helping with general shop duties as needed
• Keeping standards consistent every shift

Hours

This is a permanent role, with full-time or part-time options available depending on the applicant.

The best training shifts for us are currently Monday, Friday and Saturday, 12:00pm–9:00pm. This could be three full shifts, or shorter sections of those days for the right person.

Once fully trained, there will be more flexibility around the working pattern. Long-term hours can be discussed based on availability, experience, and how the role develops.

This role will mainly involve lunch and/or evening shifts, including Saturdays.

Experience

Previous frying experience is not required.

Hospitality, kitchen, catering, restaurant, takeaway, café, or customer service experience would be useful, but full training will be provided.

Location

The role is based at our fish and chip shop in Harpenden. Applicants from Harpenden and surrounding areas are welcome.

Pay

Pay will depend on experience and suitability for the role.

Pay: £14.00-£16.50 per hour
