Following the opening of our second shop in Clapham in 2025, Popin continues to grow, and we're looking for an experienced, energetic and passionate Deli & Store Manager to join our growing family.

We're searching for a natural leader who takes pride in running a successful shop, loves great food and coffee, and understands the importance of building a strong team and lasting relationships with customers.

Your Role

As our Deli & Store Manager, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the shop, ensuring the highest standards of customer service, product quality, team performance and operational efficiency.

You'll be responsible for driving sales, managing costs, developing your team and ensuring the shop consistently delivers the Popin experience our customers know and love.

We're looking for a hands-on, commercially minded manager who leads by example, takes ownership and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves when needed.

Key Responsibilities

Store Operations & Management

• Take full responsibility for the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of the deli, grocery and coffee shop.
• Maintain excellent standards of shop presentation, cleanliness, organisation and product availability.
• Ensure food, coffee and deli products consistently meet Popin's quality and presentation standards.
• Oversee opening and closing procedures, cash handling and daily operational routines.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, customer experience and overall shop performance.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, motivate, train and develop the team to deliver consistently high standards.
• Manage staff rotas, shift planning and staffing levels to meet the needs of the business.
• Create a positive, productive and supportive working environment.
• Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback and manage team performance.
• Lead by example with a proactive, hands-on approach.
• Support recruitment, onboarding and training of new team members.

Sales & Commercial Performance

• Take ownership of shop sales, budgets and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Drive sales growth through excellent customer service, strong merchandising and product knowledge.
• Monitor labour costs, stock levels, wastage and operational expenses to maximise profitability.
• Identify opportunities to increase average transaction value and improve commercial performance.
• Work closely with the founder to implement business objectives and improvements.

Stock & Product Management

• Oversee stock control, supplier ordering, deliveries and inventory management.
• Ensure effective stock rotation, accurate ordering and minimal food waste.
• Maintain attractive, well-stocked displays across the deli, grocery and coffee sections.
• Monitor product quality, freshness, availability and consistency.
• Develop strong product knowledge across our food, coffee, wine, cheese and grocery ranges.

Customer Experience

• Deliver an outstanding Popin customer experience at every opportunity.
• Build strong relationships with regular customers and the local community.
• Ensure the team provides friendly, knowledgeable and efficient service.
• Handle customer feedback, enquiries and complaints professionally.
• Maintain the welcoming neighbourhood atmosphere that makes Popin special.

Food Safety & Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, health and safety and licensing regulations.
• Maintain accurate food safety records and ensure appropriate procedures are followed.
• Oversee allergen management, cleaning schedules, temperature checks and safe food handling.
• Ensure all team members are properly trained and consistently follow company procedures.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a confident, capable and enthusiastic manager who has a genuine passion for food, coffee, retail and hospitality.

The ideal candidate will have:

• At least 2–3 years' experience in a management role within a deli, premium grocery store, café, coffee shop or similar hospitality environment.
• Proven experience managing a team and taking responsibility for daily business operations.
• Strong commercial awareness, including sales performance, budgets, labour costs, stock management and profitability.
• A passion for high-quality food, specialty coffee and excellent customer service.
• Experience with stock ordering, inventory control and waste management.
• Excellent knowledge of food hygiene, food safety, allergen management and health and safety procedures.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach and develop staff.
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• A friendly, engaging and approachable personality.
• The ability to remain calm, organised and decisive in a busy environment.
• A proactive, reliable and flexible approach with exceptional attention to detail.
• Barista experience and knowledge of premium food retail would be advantageous.

Above all, we're looking for someone who takes ownership, leads from the front and runs the shop with the care, commitment and attention to detail of a business owner.
