Avenue Café isn't part of a chain, and we never wanted to be.

We're proudly independent, proudly family-run, and proudly Bristol.

Our story began back in 2000 on Queen Square Avenue, where our very first little café gave us our name. Back then, independent cafés were few and far between. We set out to create somewhere people could enjoy fantastic coffee, freshly prepared food, warm service and a genuine sense of belonging.

Twenty-six years later, that philosophy hasn't changed.

We've grown, evolved, learned a great deal, and poured our hearts into creating the café we always dreamed of. Every lesson, every challenge and every success has helped shape the welcoming space we have today.

Our customers aren't just customers — many have become friends, and some have been visiting us for years. We know their names, their favourite tables, how they take their coffee, and often what's happening in their lives.

If you're looking for "just another café job", this probably isn't it.

At Avenue Café, we're incredibly proud of what we've built over the last 26 years. We work hard, laugh a lot, look after one another, and genuinely care about every person who walks through our doors.

Of course, we serve great coffee, freshly prepared food and some rather tempting cakes... but that's only part of the story.

People come back because of how we make them feel.

Whether it's remembering a customer's favourite coffee, celebrating someone's birthday, helping a nervous new mum settle in, or simply sharing a laugh on a busy morning, we believe hospitality is about people first.

What makes someone perfect for Avenue Café?

• You have 2–3+ years of hospitality experience.
• You're confident behind a coffee machine and genuinely enjoy making great coffee.
• You naturally chat with customers and remember faces.
• You stay calm when it's busy and help wherever you're needed.

• You believe nothing is too much trouble.
• You work hard without taking yourself too seriously.
• You believe kindness costs nothing.

A Few Things You Should Know…

Hospitality isn't a Monday-to-Friday job, and neither are we.

We're open seven days a week, so weekend working is part of the rota. Most days we're finished by around 5.00pm, with an even earlier finish on Sundays (usually 3.00pm), meaning you'll still have many evenings to yourself — something that's becoming increasingly rare in hospitality.

From time to time, we also host special evening events, and that's when our team really shines. Everyone mucks in, helps each other out, and enjoys being part of something a little different.

And now for one of our favourite perks...

Every Christmas, we close the café for over a week, giving everyone the chance to enjoy a proper festive break with family and friends. It's part of your annual holiday entitlement, but it's something we've always believed is important.

After all, if we're going to spend all year looking after everyone else, it's only right that we take a little time to look after ourselves too.
