Company Overview

The Sound Lounge is a vibrant music venue and vegan eaterie & bar located in Sutton, south London. As a not-for-profit organisation, we are dedicated to enriching our local and wider community through a diverse cultural offering centred around live music, workshops, community programmes and sustainable food practices. We have a small kitchen from where we make our own food from ethically sourced ingredients. The menu currently consists of pizza, sandwiches and chips as staples, plus ad hoc dishes for events. In addition we bake our own cakes for the café.

Summary

We are looking for someone who is passionate about plant-based food, someone who can handle change, who is passionate about creating food experiences and developing menu ideas in a commercial environment, keeping GP in mind, with a view of creating an offer that has curb appeal and can generate sales. This role is ideal for someone who is looking to get their teeth stuck into something meaningful; someone who has been working in kitchens and has a desire to develop.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering a food service, maintaining standards and consistency
  • Preparing, handling, storing fresh food ingredients
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the kitchen
  • Baking cakes and breads
  • Developing ideas, involvement in bespoke supper clubs
  • Working with a small dedicated team
  • Working with volunteers
  • Assist in creating a welcoming environment for the team
  • Uphold the organisation’s values of team working, flexibility and respect for all team members & volunteers
  • Qualifications
  • Passionate about food, including plant-based food.
  • Proven experience in a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage kitchen operations efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills for teamwork and customer interaction.
  • Knowledge of vegan cuisine and sustainable food practices.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic setting.
  • Enthusiasm for community arts and sustainable initiatives is a plus.
  • Must be able to work weekends and/or evenings
