Full job description

Mobile Fuel Drain Technician – Full Training Provided

Location Requirement

Applicants must live within Glasgow or the immediate surrounding area, with good access to the main motorway network.

Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for someone based in a location that allows quick access to routes such as the M8, M74, M73 and M80.

This is important as jobs can arise anywhere across the region and rapid response times are essential.

Applications from locations significantly outside the Greater Glasgow area are unlikely to be considered.

No Motor Trade Qualifications Required – Full Training Provided

You do not need to be a mechanic or have worked in the motor industry.

However, this is not a role for someone with no interest in vehicles.

We're looking for people who are genuinely interested in cars, vans or motorcycles and already have a basic understanding of how vehicles work.

If you've serviced your own car, owned a project vehicle, carried out repairs at home, enjoy working with tools, or you're the person friends call when they have a car problem, you'll likely be a good fit.

We can teach you the fuel drain process.

What we can't teach is enthusiasm for vehicles, common sense, problem-solving ability, reliability and a strong work ethic.

Read This First

This role is not for everyone.

If you need fixed hours, guaranteed income, a predictable workload or a traditional 9–5 job, this probably isn't the role for you.

This is a self-employed, on-call position where your earnings are directly linked to your availability and willingness to take jobs.

Some days you'll have no jobs.

Other days you could be attending multiple customers and be busy from morning until late evening.

The role requires flexibility, reliability and the ability to adapt at short notice.

For the right person, it offers excellent earning potential, genuine independence and a different challenge every day.

What You'll Be Doing

When someone accidentally puts the wrong fuel in their vehicle, we come to the rescue.

You'll attend customers at the roadside, at home, at work or wherever their vehicle is located and carry out a fuel drain using specialist equipment supplied by us.

Your job is to get them back on the road quickly, safely and professionally.

Responsibilities include:

  • Draining contaminated fuel from cars, vans, trucks and occasional boats
  • Carrying out roadside fuel recovery procedures
  • Replacing fuel filters where required
  • Delivering calm, professional customer service
  • Recording job details and mileage
  • Keeping in regular contact with the operations team
  • Maintaining equipment and company vehicle standards

Full training is provided.

Who We're Looking For

The people who usually do well in this role aren't necessarily qualified mechanics.

More often, they're genuine vehicle enthusiasts.

You might be a good fit if:

  • You enjoy working on your own vehicles
  • You've owned project cars, modified cars or motorcycles
  • You're confident using tools
  • You understand the basics of engines and fuel systems
  • You enjoy solving problems independently
  • You're reliable and can be trusted to get on with the job
  • You enjoy driving and being out on the road
  • You remain calm under pressure
  • You communicate well with customers

You probably won't enjoy this role if:

  • You have little interest in vehicles
  • You dislike driving
  • You need constant supervision
  • You need a fixed routine every day
  • You struggle with last-minute changes to plans

We're much more interested in attitude, reliability and genuine interest in vehicles than formal qualifications.

How The Role Works

This is a home-based position.

You keep the company van at your home and travel directly to jobs when dispatched.

There is no depot.

There is no daily commute.

When you're not attending jobs, you're free to get on with your day.

Many of our technicians use downtime for hobbies, personal projects, errands, family time or other self-employed work.

The important part is simple:

When a job comes in, you must be able to get in the van and start heading towards the customer within approximately 10 minutes.

You are not expected to sit at home waiting all day.

You are expected to be available and ready when needed.

Availability Expectations

We operate between 6am and midnight, 7 days per week.

You are not expected to be working throughout those hours.

However, when you are on-call and jobs are allocated, you must be available to respond.

The workload varies considerably.

Some days may be quiet.

Some days may be extremely busy.

You will regularly work weekends and will typically work up to six days per week.

Because we are a small team, technicians are expected to support each other and help cover jobs where required.

This role works best for people who enjoy flexibility and can adapt to changing workloads.

Travel

This is a mobile role.

Many jobs will be local to your area.

Others may require significant travel.

One job might be 15 minutes away.

The next could be several hours away.

You must enjoy driving and be comfortable spending long periods on the road when required.

Earnings

You will receive:

  • Monthly on-call retainer
  • 33% commission on completed jobs
  • Customer tips
  • Additional earning opportunities through approved upsells and services

Typical commission per job ranges from £40 to £250+.

Technicians who maintain good availability and respond consistently to jobs typically earn:

£2,500 – £6,000+ per month

Earnings are directly linked to:

  • Availability
  • Responsiveness
  • Work completed
  • Customer service standards

The more available and dependable you are, the greater your earning potential.

If you're regularly unavailable, frequently turn jobs down or are slow to respond, your earnings will be significantly lower.

What We Provide

  • Monthly on-call retainer
  • Fully equipped company van kept at your home
  • Specialist fuel drain equipment
  • Full training
  • Ongoing technical support
  • Work phone
  • Uniform
  • Work-related expenses covered
  • Weekly team catch-ups with breakfast or lunch provided
  • Local personal use of the company van

Requirements

Essential:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Confidence using hand tools
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Good communication skills
  • Professional attitude
  • Ability to work independently
  • Reliable and responsive when on-call

Preferred:

  • Interest in vehicles
  • Experience maintaining your own vehicles
  • Automotive hobbyist background
  • Experience in customer-facing roles

Why People Enjoy The Role

  • No office
  • No depot
  • No micromanagement
  • Different locations every day
  • Strong earning potential
  • Genuine independence
  • Flexible lifestyle between jobs
  • Supportive team environment
  • Satisfaction from helping people when they need it most

You'll be trusted to manage yourself, look after customers and represent the business professionally.

Final Word -

This role is demanding, unpredictable and not suited to everyone.

Some days are quiet.

Some days are extremely busy.

You'll need to be flexible, reliable and willing to respond when needed.

But if you're genuinely interested in vehicles, enjoy working independently, like solving problems and want a role where no two days are the same, this can be an extremely rewarding opportunity with strong earning potential.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

Pay: £25,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
