Vehicle Preparation Manager – Cars of Essex Limited

Cars of Essex is looking for an experienced Vehicle Preparation Manager to oversee the preparation of our used vehicle stock from arrival through to being ready for sale.

We are a busy independent dealership with around 40 vehicles in stock and are continuing to grow. This is an important role within the business and would suit somebody who is organised, has good knowledge of the motor trade and is confident managing several vehicles through different stages of preparation at the same time.

A typical morning might involve checking newly arrived stock, speaking with the technician about work required, chasing outstanding parts, arranging paint or wheel refurbishment and making sure completed vehicles move straight on to detailing and photography.

The job is really about keeping on top of everything and making sure vehicles progress through preparation without unnecessary delays.

You’ll be dealing with:

• New stock arriving
• Vehicle appraisals
• Mechanical preparation
• Parts ordering
• MOTs and servicing
• Tyres and brakes
• Paintwork and smart repairs
• Wheel refurbishment
• Outside garages and specialists
• Valeting and detailing
• Cars ready for photography
• Sold vehicles being prepared for handover

You’ll work closely with our technician and detailer every day, as well as dealing with outside suppliers and garages.

You don’t need to be a qualified mechanic, but you do need a good understanding of cars. You should be able to look at a vehicle, understand what preparation it requires and have enough mechanical knowledge to understand the work being carried out.

Organisation is a big part of the role.

If we have several cars going through preparation at the same time, you should know where each one is in the process and what needs to happen next.

If a vehicle is waiting for parts, you should know what we are waiting for and when they are due.

If a vehicle is away for paint or wheel refurbishment, you should know when it is expected back.

Once a vehicle has completed one stage of preparation, you should already be arranging the next.

We need somebody who is happy to get involved rather than manage everything from behind a desk. You’ll be walking around the vehicles, checking progress, speaking with the technician, dealing with suppliers and making sure jobs are completed properly.

Previous experience in the motor trade is important. Someone coming from workshop control, service advising, vehicle preparation, used car operations or a similar position would suit the role well.

More than anything, we want somebody reliable who can take ownership of the preparation process and maintain a good standard across our stock.

Our aim is straightforward: every vehicle we purchase should be prepared properly, presented to a high standard and ready for sale as efficiently as possible.

This is a full-time position with plenty of responsibility and the opportunity to become an important part of Cars of Essex as the business continues to grow.

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
