Full job description

Company overview

Splaat Photo is an innovative, award-winning school photography and videography company based in Stevenage. We work with schools to capture portraits, performances, sporting events and everyday school life, creating high-quality memories for families throughout the academic year.

Safeguarding, consent, data protection and the secure handling of children’s images are central to everything we do.

The role

We are looking for a reliable, friendly and detail-focused Photo Editing, Photography and Customer Service Assistant to join our team.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for approximately four months, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and the needs of the business.

The role will be primarily based at our Stevenage office. Most of your time will be spent editing and quality-checking photographs, preparing and packaging printed orders, and assisting parents and schools with routine enquiries. You will also occasionally travel to our schools to take photographs and videos.

This could be an excellent opportunity for someone beginning their career, including a recent school or college leaver, although we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. Professional experience is not essential, and training will be provided.

Closing date: 5 pm Tuesday 1 September

Key details

  • Full-time, fixed-term employment for approximately four months
  • Possibility of extension depending on performance and business needs
  • Based at our office in Stevenage
  • Monday to Friday, normally 9.00 am to 5.00 pm
  • One-hour unpaid lunch break
  • 35 paid hours per week
  • £12.71 per hour
  • Starting as soon as possible
  • Occasional early starts or evening work may be required for school events, with additional hours returned as time off in lieu
  • Mileage paid at 25p per mile when a personal vehicle is used for authorised business travel

Responsibilities

  • Edit and prepare school photographs using photo-editing software and our internal production systems
  • Check images carefully for quality, consistency and accuracy before delivery
  • Organise, name, upload and securely manage digital image files
  • Print, check, mount, package and prepare photograph orders for dispatch
  • Respond to routine enquiries from parents and school staff by telephone and email
  • Escalate safeguarding, consent, data-protection or sensitive customer-service matters to an experienced team member
  • Travel to schools to photograph events, activities and portraits when required
  • Occasionally assist with filming school events and performances
  • Follow all safeguarding, consent, confidentiality and data-protection procedures
  • Work closely with the editing, production and operations teams to meet deadlines
  • Help prioritise urgent school deliveries during busy periods
  • Maintain a tidy, organised and efficient working environment

Essential qualities

  • Confident using computers and able to learn new software quickly
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately
  • Reliable, punctual and well organised
  • Comfortable completing high-volume or repetitive tasks while maintaining quality
  • Friendly and professional when communicating with parents, schools and colleagues
  • Able to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a busy environment
  • Willing to follow detailed safeguarding, confidentiality and data-protection procedures
  • Able to travel reliably to our Stevenage office and, when required, to client schools
  • Willing to work occasional early mornings or evenings when school events require it

Desirable experience

The following would be helpful but is not essential:

  • Photography using a DSLR or mirrorless camera
  • Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop or similar photo-editing software
  • Video recording or editing
  • Photo printing, mounting, packaging or order fulfilment
  • Customer service by telephone or email
  • Organising and managing digital files
  • A full UK driving licence and reliable access to a car

Safeguarding and pre-employment checks

Because this position involves working with schools and handling children’s images, the successful applicant will be required to complete appropriate pre-employment checks. These will include proof of the right to work in the UK, satisfactory references and relevant DBS and safeguarding requirements.

Training will be provided on our systems, editing standards, customer-service procedures, safeguarding responsibilities and secure image-handling processes.

If you are enthusiastic, comfortable with technology and keen to develop experience within a creative and growing business, we would be delighted to hear from you. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, so early applications are encouraged.

Pay: From £12.71 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 per week

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Free parking
