Strategy and Communications

Strategy and Communications sits at the centre of the organisation, bringing together several teams with organisation-wide remits and mutual collaboration opportunities. The work of the directorate’s teams includes delivery of major events, designing and leading public affairs or marketing campaigns, providing data, evidence and analysis, leading cross-organisational programmes, to making sure we plan for and can respond to emerging events or emergencies in our city.


About the role

This role will be accountable for the core business functions of the EURO 2028 team sitting within the Major Sports Events team.
They will develop, manage and oversee the master project plan for the EURO 2028 team delivery of the project in the city, as well as managing the team’s budget, HR, procurement, corporate reporting and risk management process.

EURO 2028 sits within the GLA Major Sport Events Team.

What your day will look like

  • Develops, manages and oversees the master project plan for EURO 2028 in London. This includes the development of critical paths, project milestones, risks, issues and finance logs.
  • Works alongside the Project lead to ensure the successful delivery of all aspects of the GLA’s obligations under the UEFA host city agreement.
  • Manages the procurement processes across the project acting as the main point of contact for all procurements, working closely with the TfL procurement team.
  • Provides day-to-day management of the project budget, including corporate monitoring, profiling, quarterly forecasting and year-end processes.
  • Works closely with the Project Support Officer on timely and efficient finance processes, such as raising of purchase orders and invoicing, utilising the GLA’s finance system, SAP Ariba
  • Manages the day-to-day business processes, such as Write-On correspondence, Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, Mayor’s questions and Mayor’s report submissions.
  • Leads on all issues relating to project resourcing and HR across the EURO 2028 team including management of recruitment campaigns from post approval to interview

To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience of project and risk management on high-profile projects operating with a multi-million-pound budget.
  • Skills in understanding, interpreting, analysing and reporting on detailed project information.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience in budget management, and in using finance systems.
  • Experience of programme management for a time-sensitive high-profile project to include critical paths, project milestones, risks, issues and finance logs.
  • A firm grasp of procurement processes and managing the programme and budget oversight of contractors.
  • Experience of under-taking high-quality work, operating to tight deadlines

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
