Hey! We’re Kukoon Rugs and we’re pleased to meet you! - We are the largest independent Rug company in the UK and Ireland.- We are a family owned and run business with around 55 employees, scaling to take over the rug industry.

- We are an e-commerce centric company, with a big emphasis on continuous improvement.

So we aren’t sure this role exists, but we are gonna have a crack at first explaining the role clearly, and then hiring the perfect person!

We are looking for a Lean Technician. Someone who can coordinate improvement ideas, host a Kaizen and has the trade skills to execute the improvements. So if you are good with your hands, your head and can communicate with people - then this could be the one for you.

So what will you be doing at Kukoon: Working with our Lean Leaders group to drive our Lean culture forward. Execute improvement ideas, utilising your joinery and maintenance skillset. Improvements range from refurbishing an old office, to improving signage to match our Brand Standard.

Lean Improvements - We are a team of problem solvers. We understand that change is mandatory and we must continually improve our processes to give us a competitive advantage. Our team can handle small improvements daily, but larger, more complex improvements need an additional skill set.

  • Utilise joinery, handyman trade skills to execute larger scale improvements.
  • Prioritise improvements with the Lean Leaders Group and deliver on timelines.
  • Proactively find ways to improve the business daily.

Facilities Improvement - As a growing company, our buildings must be able to scale with us. We change and improve our stores, and redesign/outgrow office space. Being versatile and being able to turn your hand to multiple areas is key here.

  • Build and install new Rug Stands for our retail showrooms.
  • Refurbish offices, from paint to ceiling tiles.
  • Build ad hoc things from tables, to cash desks.

Bonus Time - Being adaptable is key. We need someone who also knows their way around a computer - not a whiz kid, but can easily manage emails, the google suite, referring to docs and slides mainly.

  • Create a standard that the rest of the company follows.
  • Facilitate improvement sessions, coordinating teams and tasks.
  • Communicate with the whole company about our Lean culture and the progress of improvements.

What you bring to the table:

  • A background working with your hands - preferably carpenter experience.
  • An intermediate skill set on a computer - Google Suite etc.
  • The ability to communicate at all levels. You are able to relate and get the best out of people, driving our culture forward.
  • You are deadline driven and have the end customer in mind, internal or external.
  • You challenge people with respect - not every idea is going to work. It is your job to ensure people’s voices are heard and valued, but you must guide people down the right path.
