Corbel Joinery Ltd | Castle Cary, Somerset Corbel Joinery is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to take a leading role within our growing specialist carpentry and joinery business. Part of the wider Corbel group, Corbel Joinery delivers high-quality architectural joinery, bespoke timberwork and cabinetry, with particular strengths in heritage buildings, high-end residential projects and complex refurbishment. We are looking for someone with a strong background in carpentry, joinery, specialist timberwork or construction management, who combines practical technical knowledge with the organisational and commercial skills needed to manage projects from initial enquiry through to manufacture, installation and completion. You do not necessarily need to come from a traditional workshop joinery background. We would equally welcome applications from experienced site carpenters, carpentry supervisors, project managers or individuals who have managed specialist timber or joinery packages. What matters most is a sound understanding of quality carpentry and joinery, the ability to organise and manage work effectively, commercial awareness and the confidence to take responsibility. The role Working closely with our experienced Workshop Manager and the wider Corbel team, you will take responsibility for managing and coordinating Corbel Joinery's projects, enquiries and workload. You will be involved from the earliest stages of an enquiry, helping clients and design teams develop their requirements before ensuring the right information, materials and resources are in place for successful manufacture and installation. Our Workshop Manager oversees the practical manufacturing operations, providing strong technical support and experience. Your role will complement this, with a particular focus on project management, estimating, commercial performance, client relationships and the coordination of work.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing new enquiries and developing opportunities into secured work.
• Meeting clients, architects, designers and contractors to understand project requirements.
• Visiting sites, undertaking surveys and assessing practical requirements.
• Preparing estimates, quotations and budgets for carpentry and joinery packages.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical information.
• Planning and coordinating projects from initial enquiry through to installation.
• Working closely with the Workshop Manager to ensure production is properly planned and supported.
• Organising procurement of timber, ironmongery, fittings and specialist materials.
• Monitoring project costs, programmes and commercial performance.
• Coordinating site installations, subcontractors and associated activities.
• Maintaining strong relationships and clear communication with clients and project teams.
• Helping develop the business, improve processes and identify new opportunities.
• Ensuring Corbel's high standards of craftsmanship, presentation and service are maintained.

Who we are looking forWe are open-minded about the background of the right candidate.You may already be working in joinery management, or you could be an experienced site carpenter, carpentry supervisor, contracts manager, estimator or construction professional looking to move into a broader management role.Perhaps you have spent years delivering high-quality carpentry and timberwork on site and are now looking for an opportunity to use that knowledge in a position involving more project management, commercial responsibility and business development.Alternatively, you may have managed your own carpentry or joinery business and be looking to apply your experience within an established and growing company.The right person is likely to have:

• Strong practical knowledge of carpentry, joinery, timber construction or specialist timberwork.
• Experience working on high-quality residential, heritage, refurbishment or bespoke construction projects.
• The ability to interpret drawings, specifications and technical details.
• A good understanding of how carpentry and joinery work is priced, planned and delivered.
• Commercial awareness, including an appreciation of labour, materials, productivity and project costs.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Confidence communicating with clients, architects, designers and contractors.
• A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach.
• The confidence to take ownership, make decisions and see projects through to completion.

Experience in estimating, project management, supervising teams or running your own business would be particularly valuable. Previous workshop management experience would be advantageous, but it is not essential. Equally, experience in heritage carpentry, traditional timberwork or high-end residential construction would be highly relevant. Above all, we are looking for someone with the right attitude, sound technical judgement and the ambition to contribute to the continued development of the business.
