Full job description

About Humdingers

Humdingers is a luxury catering and corporate events company delivering exceptional food and service to some of London's leading businesses and organisations.

We provide everything from daily corporate catering and hospitality to conferences, product launches, networking events, private functions, weddings, and large-scale events across London and the surrounding areas. We work with recognised brands and pride ourselves on delivering exceptional food and service at every event.

Alongside our commercial operations, we run a community soup kitchen providing over 1,000 meals each week to people in need. Supporting our community isn't a side project – it's a core part of who we are.

As our events business continues to grow, we are looking for skilled Freelance Event Chefs to support both our production kitchen and event operations.

The Role

This is a flexible, ad-hoc freelance position designed to support our kitchen and events teams during busy periods.

You may be working in our Hackney production kitchen preparing food for a corporate lunch one day and supporting a large-scale conference, wedding, private party, or brand activation the next. Hours would depend on busness needs.

Our events take place throughout London and anywhere within the M25, so flexibility to travel to different venues is essential.

We're looking for chefs who are reliable, adaptable, and able to maintain exceptional standards while working in fast-paced environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and produce food to a consistently high standard
  • Support daily catering and food production operations
  • Assist with event preparation, packing, and service
  • Work across a variety of events including conferences, corporate functions, networking events, private parties, weddings, and hospitality events
  • Follow recipes, specifications, and production schedules
  • Maintain excellent food hygiene and health & safety standards
  • Support the Executive Chef and wider kitchen team
  • Ensure food presentation and quality standards are maintained at all times
  • Work efficiently under pressure and meet production deadlines
  • Assist with event setup, service, and breakdown where required
  • Represent Humdingers professionally when working at client sites and events

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience as a Chef de Partie, Senior Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, or similar role
  • Experience within events, banqueting, corporate catering, hospitality, or high-volume food production
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to get stuck in
  • Flexible and reliable approach to work
  • Excellent understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety procedures
  • Willingness to travel to event locations across London and within the M25
  • Willingness to work occasional late evenings and weekends depending on event requirements
  • Availability to accept ad-hoc shifts, sometimes at short notice
  • Right to work in the UK

If you're a skilled chef looking for flexible freelance opportunities within a growing catering and events business, we'd love to hear from you.

Please note: This is a freelance, self-employed role with no guaranteed hours. Work will be offered based on business requirements and event schedules.

Our events take place across London and anywhere within the M25, so applicants must be willing and able to travel to different venues as required.

No agencies please.

Pay: £18.00-£20.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
