Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Kennel Assistant to join our kennels and cattery for the summer, including weekend cover. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing exceptional animal care and supporting our team with daily kennel operations. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about animal welfare and eager to develop their skills within a professional environment. The role involves hands-on animal care, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for all animals in our care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily cleaning and sanitisation of kennels, cages, and common areas to ensure a hygienic environment.
  • Provide attentive care to animals, including feeding, watering, and administering medication as directed by senior staff.
  • Monitor animals' behaviour and health, reporting any concerns or abnormalities to the team promptly.
  • Support with the organisation of kennels, including bedding changes and general maintenance tasks.
  • Handle animals gently during interactions, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.
  • Assist with the arrival of animals during admissions and discharges.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal care activities and treatments administered.
  • Support customer service efforts by providing friendly assistance to pet owners when required.

Requirements

  • Genuine passion for animal welfare and compassionate nature when handling animals.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary, including moving animals or equipment safely.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and cleanliness standards.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively within a team and interact courteously with clients.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts as required, including weekends or holidays.
  • Physical fitness to handle the demands of the role, including standing for extended periods and lifting heavy objects.   • Previous experience working with animals, for at least a year and Animal Management Level 2 qualification is essential.
  • Own transport required, due to location and applicant should live within a reasonable commuting distance.
