Catering Assistant – Residential Care Home

Full-time | £12.76 per hour | 35 hours per week | On-site

Part-time | £12.76 per hour | 14 - 28 hours per week | On-site

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our organisation for a passionate and reliable Catering Assistant to join our friendly residential care home team.

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality meals to our residents, ensuring their individual preferences and dietary requirements are met. Working as part of a motivated and supportive team, you will contribute to the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of a busy, customer-focused kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

The Catering Assistant responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Undertake the preparation, delivery, and service of food and beverages, ensuring high standards of quality and presentation.
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of kitchen and dining facilities, maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
  • Conduct routine equipment checks, ensure all equipment is in good working order and report any faults immediately. Remove any faulty, unsafe or defective equipment from service immediately.
  • Ensure equipment supplied is used with care, in accordance with suppliers’ instructions and training.
  • Support residents during mealtimes, promoting dignity, independence, choice, and a positive dining experience.
  • Ensure residents' dietary, nutritional, cultural, religious, and medical requirements are met, including modified texture diets where required.
  • ·Observe and report concerns relating to residents' food intake, hydration, appetite, or wellbeing to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Ensure food is stored, handled, prepared, and served in accordance with food safety legislation and organisational procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and infection prevention and control throughout all catering areas.
  • Assist with the preparation, setting up, clearing, and cleaning of dining areas before and after meal services.
  • Assist in identifying items to be ordered to ensure enough levels of supplies for catering operation.
  • Checking orders / deliveries, rotating and putting away of stock, checking stock expiry dates and disposing of out-of-date food appropriately.
  • Follow opening and closing procedures in the kitchen.
  • Complete and maintain food safety, cleaning, stock, and temperature monitoring records as required.
  • Report any incidents or accidents in line with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support residents' health, wellbeing, and individual needs.
  • Be responsible for promoting and protecting the welfare of individuals supported by the service.
  • Operate within Organisational Policies and Procedures, (including Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Infection Control and HR Policies), and comply with all legal requirements in relation to food safety and hygiene, including Environmental Health and HSE.
  • Participate in mandatory training and ongoing professional development relevant to the role.
  • Treat residents, visitors, colleagues, and external professionals with dignity, respect, and professionalism at all times.

Requirements

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have strong communication and listening skills
  • Be dependable and punctual
  • Hold an NVQ Level 2 (or above) in Catering, or have experience working as a Catering Assistant in a busy kitchen
  • Be flexible to work a rota that includes days, evenings, and weekends

Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check and complete mandatory training.
