Experienced Chef

Location: Castle Hedingham, Halstead
Salary: 38,000 per annum

We’re looking for an experienced Head Chef to join our brand new team at The Wheatsheaf.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate and enjoys cooking a combination of traditional pub classics alongside modern well-presented dishes. We’re a welcoming, down-to-earth team and are looking for someone who will enjoy becoming a valued member of staff.

What you'll be doing

  • Responsible for creating our brand new menu
  • Preparing and cooking high-quality pub food to a consistent standard
  • Keeping things running smoothly during busy lunch and evening services
  • Preparing ingredients and completing daily food prep
  • Maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness and food hygiene
  • Monitoring stock and helping to minimise food waste
  • Following food safety, allergen and health & safety procedures
  • Working closely with the rest of the kitchen and front-of-house team
  • Helping to create a positive, organised and enjoyable kitchen environment

Skills and Experience

Previous experience working as a Chef in a pub, restaurant or similar professional kitchen is essential.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Preparing and cooking high-quality pub food to a consistent standard
  • Be able to price a menu in accordance to a set GP
  • Can stay calm and organised when service gets busy
  • Has a good understanding of food hygiene, allergens and kitchen safety
  • Takes real pride in the food they prepare and serve
  • Is reliable, hardworking and punctual
  • Has a positive attitude and enjoys being part of a team
  • Is happy to get stuck in and help wherever needed

Qualifications & Training

  • Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene qualification
  • Food Allergen Awareness/Allergen Management training
  • Good working knowledge of HACCP principles and food safety management systems
  • Good working knowledge of Kitchen Health & Safety and COSHH requirements
