Area Manager - Education Catering

Coombs Catering Partnership is a proudly independent contract catering business with a strong reputation for delivering fresh food, exceptional service, and supportive partnerships within the education sector.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Area Manager to oversee a group of primary school catering contracts.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated catering professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys building strong teams and client relationships.

The Role

As Area Manager, you will be responsible for the operational performance of multiple school catering sites, ensuring that high standards of food quality, compliance, customer service, and financial performance are consistently achieved.

You will work closely with site teams, clients, and senior management to drive standards, support growth, and create a positive working culture across your region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations across multiple education catering sites
  • Lead, coach, and motivate catering teams to deliver excellent service standards
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with school clients and stakeholders
  • Monitor food quality, health & safety, and compliance standards
  • Support menu development, stock management, and cost control
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training of catering staff
  • Conduct regular site visits, audits, and performance reviews
  • Liaise with Head Office and provide regular operational updates to senior management

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about food and people, with previous experience managing multi-site catering operations within the education sector.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in an Area Manager or multi-site management role within contract catering
  • Strong secondary school experience
  • Strong leadership and team development skills
  • Excellent organisational and communication abilities
  • A proactive, hands-on, and flexible approach
  • Strong financial and operational awareness
  • The ability to build positive client relationships
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check

  • Mileage allowance: 35p per mile for the first 10,000 miles, and 25p per mile thereafter
