Health and Independent Living Support (HILS) are looking for a Deputy Meal Services Manager.

Location- Site base will be one of our four sites in Hertfordshire -to be agreed with applicant and Line Manager .However, the job role covers all HILS’ four sites in Hertfordshire: Letchworth, SG6 1HB; Hertford, SG13 7BH; St Albans, AL3 5BU; and Hemel Hempstead, HP2 4EU, so successful applicant must be willing to travel.

Role Summary

The Deputy Meal Services Manager is an operational leadership role within HILS, responsible for the effective day-to-day delivery and performance of meal services across Hertfordshire. Reporting to the Meal Services Manager, the Deputy Meal Services Manager provides leadership to Team and Shift Leaders, ensuring that services are safe, reliable, compliant, and aligned with HILS’ values. The role works closely with peers and central teams to ensure consistent operational standards, effective resource utilisation, and high levels of customer and stakeholder satisfaction. The role translates operational plans into effective service delivery, ensuring that systems, processes, and team performance support service quality, safety, and organisational sustainability.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential

  • Satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience of working in an operational or logistics environment.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Experience of supporting teams and handling people-related issues.
  • Good numerical and analytical skills relevant to operational and budget management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond effectively to changing circumstances.

Desirable

  • Food Safety Level 3 qualification.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practice.
  • Experience in health, social care, or community-based services.
  • Experience in customer-facing service delivery.
  • Direct people management experience.
