Catering Supervisor - Pure Coffee, Vernon Park

Lead a thriving community café where great food, excellent customer service and meaningful social impact come together. As catering supervisor, you'll lead a talented team while supporting adults with disabilities to develop skills, confidence and independence in a welcoming café environment.

Salary: £31,538

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours per week, with a fair proportion of weekends

(4 working days summer months, 5 working days winter months)

Location: Vernon Park

Responsible to: Catering Manager

Role Purpose:

As a supervisor, you will lead and promote one of our catering outlets, ensuring outstanding customer service and maintaining the highest standards of quality across all products and services.

You will also provide essential support and training to a group of adults with disabilities (referred to as ‘Clients’). Your focus will be on promoting their independence, ensuring they receive the care they deserve, and keeping their needs at the core of everything that Pure Innovations delivers.

Core Responsibilities:

Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities:

People Leadership

  • Lead, motivate and supervise a team of contracted and casual Catering Assistants across a seven-day operation, ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained.
  • Produce and manage efficient staff rotas that balance customer demand, sales performance and production requirements.
  • Recruit, induct and train catering team leaders and catering assistants, including seasonal recruitment, whilst working within agreed budgets.
  • Deliver comprehensive inductions and ongoing training covering customer service, food preparation, food safety and café operations.
  • Conduct regular one-to-one supervision meetings, providing coaching, support and performance feedback.
  • Manage employee attendance, including return-to-work interviews, sickness absence meetings and maintaining accurate records using our HR system.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive and high-performing team culture that reflects Pure Innovations' values.

Catering Operations

  • Support the catering manager in reviewing and developing menus to reflect seasonal produce, customer demand and current food trends.
  • Manage food ordering, supplier relationships and stock levels to ensure product availability whilst minimising waste.
  • Complete monthly stocktakes in partnership with the Finance Department.
  • Oversee the daily operation of the till system and ensure accurate cash handling and reporting procedures.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and in good working order, reporting faults promptly and arranging suitable alternatives where required.
  • Complete all required operational paperwork accurately and within required timescales, including authorising staff timesheets.
  • Act as a key holder, ensuring the security of the café and adherence to opening and closing procedures.

Food Safety, Compliance & Quality

  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of the Safer Food Better Business food safety management system.
  • Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, health and safety, allergen and environmental health legislation.
  • Manage the food safety compliance system, ensuring all daily, weekly and monthly checks are completed and reviewed to maintain a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating.
  • Carry out monthly food safety audits using the Assure Health & Safety app and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Conduct twice-yearly allergen reviews, including prepacked for direct sale (PPDS) products, ensuring all information is accurate and communicated effectively.
  • Ensure staff remain informed of current risk assessments relating to clients, activities and the café environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all Pure Innovations policies, procedures and operational standards.

Client Support & Inclusive Employment

  • Work closely with catering support staff and pure support managers to provide meaningful training and support for adults with disabilities working within the café.
  • Promote independence, confidence and employability by providing person-centred support within the workplace.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding, health and safety and wellbeing concerns affecting clients.
  • Ensure the needs, aspirations and dignity of clients remain at the centre of all service delivery.

Community Engagement & Organisational Promotion

  • Promote Pure Coffee as a welcoming community hub that encourages inclusion and engagement.
  • Act as an ambassador for Pure Innovations by promoting the organisation's services, employment opportunities and social impact to customers and the wider community.
  • Support initiatives that enhance the reputation and commercial success of the café whilst delivering positive outcomes for the people we support.

Person Specification

Qualifications and training

· Previous on the job training and development within a catering setting.

· Food hygiene level 3 qualification or above.

· Catering qualification- NVQ or diploma

Experience

· At least 2 years management experience within a café or restaurant.

· Working with adults with disabilities.
