POST TITLE: Nursery Chef

RESPONSIBLE TO: Nursery Manager / Deputy Manager

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

The Chef must hold, at a minimum, the Level 3 Supervising Food Safety in Catering certificate or the equivalent/higher.

The Chef must hold, at a minimum, the First Aid at Work certificate or the equivalent/higher.

The Chef must hold, at a minimum, the Food Allergy Awareness certificate or the equivalent/higher.

THE ROLE:

As a Chef you are to oversee the kitchen by managing other members of the food preparation team, deciding what dishes to serve, and adjusting dishes to meet children’s individual dietary requirements. You will assist in prep work, such as chopping vegetables, but more often will be involved in cooking specialty dishes. You should choose ingredients and design a menu based on the seasonal availability of food items and create unique dishes to maintain healthy diets of the children in Pippa’s House Nursery’s care.

An enhanced DBS check is required by Pippa’s House Nursery before any appointment can be confirmed.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

To prepare and cook nutritionally balanced meals appropriate for under-fives in accordance with the nursery’s nutritional guidance for the under-fives.

To contribute ideas to menu planning ensuring the children receive a healthy nutritionally balanced, multi-cultural diet.

To maintain a safe, clean, and healthy kitchen environment

To regulate kitchen stock control and collate food purchasing orders as appropriate.

To maintain accurate records regarding temperature controls etc.

To meet health and safety and environmental health requirements at all times.

To liaise with nursery staff regarding children’s specific dietary requirements.

To have a full knowledge of the dietary requirements of children within the setting

To keep up to date with current good practice. To contribute to the creation of a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all children

To deliver food to the individual rooms on time

To be aware of Pippa’s House Nursery’s policies and procedures and ensure these are adhered to

To contribute to the effective recording and resolution of any complaints or investigations, ensuring confidentiality at all times

To be professional and a good role model to the children and other staff members, at all times

To work flexibly as part of the larger team, assisting and supporting colleagues wherever required, to ensure the smooth running of the company

To attend reasonable out-of-working-hours activities, including training, staff meetings, and special events
