About Us
At NHS Golden Jubilee University National Hospital, we’re proud to play a key role in supporting NHS Scotland by delivering high-quality, person-centred care. As a modern national facility with state-of-the-art clinical services and specialist teams, we help ensure patients across Scotland receive timely, safe and effective treatment.
We are currently recruiting for a Food Catering Assistant to join our Catering Team, offering an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting patients, visitors and staff through the delivery of high-quality food and beverage services.
Our Catering Team plays an important role in the patient experience, ensuring that nutritious meals, refreshments and catering services are delivered safely, efficiently and professionally across the hospital. From supporting ward-based patient dining services to serving customers in staff and visitor catering areas, the team contributes directly to the comfort and wellbeing of those using our services.
About the Role
As part of our Catering Team, you will provide an efficient, effective and professional food and beverage service to patients, visitors, staff, hospital departments and business tenants across the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital. You will work closely with colleagues throughout the Catering Department to ensure high standards of customer service are maintained while adhering to all Health & Safety and Food Safety regulations.
This is an opportunity to work in a busy, customer-focused environment where your contribution will directly enhance the experience of patients and visitors. Working on a 5 over 7-day rota, you will rotate between a variety of catering areas including ward services, dining facilities and vending services.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Providing food and beverage services within staff, visitor and patient catering areas.
- Assisting patients with menu selections and dietary requirements.
- Delivering meal, trolley and tray services to wards and patient areas.
- Operating tills, handling cash and completing associated financial records.
- Maintaining food safety, hygiene and health and safety standards.
- Cleaning catering equipment, service areas and dining facilities.
- Replenishing stock and ensuring service areas are well maintained.
- Supporting vending machine operations, including replenishment and cleaning.
- Completing service, temperature and financial records accurately.
- Promoting a positive customer experience through excellent service and communication.
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual who enjoys working with people and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service.
You will:
- Hold an Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate or be willing to maintain this requirement.
- Have previous customer service experience.
- Ideally have experience working within a catering or food service environment.
- Have experience of cash handling and food service activities.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of food hygiene and health and safety regulations.
- Possess strong communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
- Be able to work effectively to tight timescales within a busy service environment.
- Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
You will be motivated, adaptable and customer-focused, with the ability to maintain high standards of service while working across a range of catering areas. A flexible approach is essential as the post involves working a variety of shifts, including weekends and potential 12-hour shifts.
