Job Summary
We're looking for a friendly, reliable Catering Assistant to join our small and welcoming kitchen team at Eshcol House Nursing Home in the beautiful village of Portscatho.

This role would suit someone who enjoys cooking and baking and would particularly appeal to an experienced chef looking for a less demanding role while still being able to use their skills. If you enjoy producing comforting food, baking delicious cakes, and making residents smile, we'd love to hear from you.

About the role

Our kitchen offers a lovely balance of convenience and creativity. We use Apetito, a high-quality range of professionally prepared meals that arrive ready cooked and are simply reheated and served to our residents. This means you won't be working in the pressures of a traditional commercial kitchen every day. Alongside this, we prepare homemade breakfasts, light meals and, of course, plenty of home baking. If you enjoy baking cakes, traybakes and other treats, there are lots of opportunities to add your own personal touch and make our residents' day that little bit brighter.

shifts between 8.00am and 6.00pm, with some flexibility.

What we're looking for

  • A warm, positive attitude and someone who enjoys working as part of a small team.
  • Some experience in catering or cooking. Previous chef experience would be fantastic and this role could be ideal for someone looking to step away from the demands of a busy commercial kitchen while still enjoying cooking and baking.
  • A passion for home baking – our residents certainly appreciate a freshly baked cake!
  • A Food Hygiene Certificate would be an advantage, although training can be provided.
  • Experience using Apetito would be helpful but isn't essential.

Eshcol House is in Portscatho and public transport is limited. There is a bus service to and from Truro that can work with some of our shifts, but in most cases having your own transport is the easiest option. Free parking is available.
