Job title: Chef Manager – Secondary School (Term Time, Days Only)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 6am–3.30pm (45 hours per week)
Working weeks: 42 per year (term time, inset days and 3 additional weeks)

About the role

We’re recruiting an experienced Chef Manager for a busy secondary school in Folkestone, working for one of the UK’s leading school catering providers.

You’ll run a high-volume kitchen, cooking fresh, seasonal food for hundreds of students every day. It’s a hands-on leadership role with a great work-life balance: no evenings, no weekends and all school holidays off.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading, motivating and developing your catering team
• Preparing and serving fresh, seasonal meals at high volume- There are over 1000 students on site
• Preparing, managing stock and controlling budgets
• Making sure all food hygiene, health and safety, and allergen standards are met
• Building strong relationships with the school and other stakeholders
• Running a smooth, efficient service from prep to finish

What we’re looking for

• Experience running a kitchen as a Chef Manager, Head Chef or Kitchen Manager. Strong Deputy Chef Managers or Sous Chefs ready for the next step are also welcome to apply.
• Experience in schools, contract catering or other high-volume environments
• Proven ability to cook fresh food from scratch at volume
• Strong team leadership and people management skills
• Experience managing stock, ordering, budgets and compliance
• Level 2 Food Hygiene as a minimum (Level 3 preferred)
• Good knowledge of allergen management
• Organised, proactive and proud of high standards
• Able to reliably start at 6am (a driving licence and own transport are recommended due to the early start)

The process

The process includes an interview, a trade test and a kitchen visit at the school.

This role involves working with children. The successful candidate will need an enhanced DBS check with a children’s barred list check, paid for by the employer, along with full references covering the last five years. This will be processed by the employer upon successful acceptance of the role.
