Chef / Work Experience Provider

40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (Full Time / Full Year)

Salary: £23,717 to £25,792 per annum

Starting salary will be dependent on qualifications

Glasshouse College, Stourbridge

The Glasshouse College provides innovative and experiential education and training for young people marginalised by disadvantage, exclusion or special learning needs. Inspired by Rudolf Steiner, William Morris and John Ruskin, the college actively promotes the industrial heritage of the Black Country, craftsmanship and entrepreneurship in traditional and contemporary industry and crafts.

The post holder will be required to work with the catering team and students at Glasshouse College’s beautiful Vale Head Farm site in nearby Kinver, to produce seasonal lunch dishes for the College community utilising organic and biodynamic ingredients, which are locally sourced wherever possible. There will also be an expectation to work across other College kitchens as required to support the catering team operation throughout the year.

The main duties in this role will include:

  • To create, prepare and serve high quality, seasonal lunch dishes each day for the Vale Head Farm staff and students, using organic and biodynamic ingredients.
  • To produce high quality baked goods using organic and biodynamic ingredients e.g. artisan sourdough breads.
  • To lead the team when required.
  • To cover and support the catering team within other College kitchens, as required throughout the year.
  • To work directly with students in the development of their employability skills in catering.
  • To assist in delivering relevant qualifications to students as necessary in line with student pathways and aspirations.

To undertake this position successfully, you will have:

  • Appropriate experience of operating in a similar role.
  • Previous experience making bread.
  • Patience, resilience and a caring and empathetic approach to working with young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Experience with interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • A flexible and professional approach to your work.
