Consultant Histopathologist – Cellular Pathology
Location: Hereford, Herefordshire
Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 per annum, depending on experience
Contract: Permanent
Working Pattern: Full-time or Part-time

Sanctuary Personnel is recruiting for a Consultant Histopathologist / Cellular Pathologist to join a friendly, supportive and forward-thinking Histopathology Department in Hereford.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Consultant or a pathologist nearing completion of training. The department is expanding its consultant workforce and is particularly interested in specialists in Breast Pathology, Skin/Dermatopathology and general Histopathology.

The Role

You will provide a high-quality histopathology and non-gynaecological cytopathology service, reporting a broad range of surgical pathology specimens and contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings, governance, audit and education.

  • Skin Pathology / Dermatopathology

  • Teaching, research and clinical leadership

About the Department

The department is fully UKAS accredited and provides services across Herefordshire and Mid Wales. It currently has three substantive consultants and is expanding to a full complement of six Consultant Cellular Pathologists.

The service benefits from:

  • Approximately 15,000–20,000 histopathology specimens annually

  • Participation in breast, bowel and cervical screening programmes

  • No formal on-call commitment
  • Supportive mentorship for newly appointed Consultants

Requirements

  • Full and Specialist GMC Registration with a current licence to practise, or eligibility for Specialist Registration within six months of interview.
  • CCT or equivalent specialist training, or within six months of obtaining CCT.
  • FRCPath or equivalent.
  • Appropriate training and experience in Histopathology and diagnostic Cytology.
  • Broad Cellular Pathology experience appropriate to a District General Hospital service.
  • Experience in surgical histopathology and non-gynaecological cytology, including fine needle aspirates.

Desirable: Breast Pathology and screening experience, Skin/Dermatopathology, management or service development experience, and autopsy experience.
