We're continuing to grow and are looking for an ambitious Chartered Structural Engineer to become an integral member of our team and develop as part of the management team
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Chartered Structural Engineer to take ownership of a varied portfolio of projects whilst developing new business.
You will lead structural engineering commissions from initial concept through detailed design, construction and completion, providing innovative, buildable and commercially viable engineering solutions.
Alongside project delivery, you will mentor junior engineers, support business development activities and work closely with clients, architects, contractors and other consultants.
The role also offers the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in the assessment and remediation of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), with full training provided where required.
Travel throughout the UK, and occasionally internationally, may be required for site inspections, investigations and client meetings.
Key Responsibilities
Structural Engineering
- Lead the structural design and delivery of projects across a range of sectors.
- Produce structural calculations and designs using steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry.
- Provide expert guidance the whole team
- Ensure all designs comply with Eurocodes, British Standards and current Building Regulations.
- Undertake structural analysis, feasibility studies and value engineering exercises.
- Carry out structural inspections, surveys and condition assessments.
- Develop practical remedial solutions for existing structures.
- Review drawings, calculations and reports produced by engineers and technicians.
- Coordinate with architects, civil engineers, contractors and other consultants throughout project delivery.
- Provide technical leadership on complex engineering challenges.
Project Management
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously from inception through to completion.
- Deliver projects safely, on programme and within budget.
- Maintain effective communication with clients and stakeholders.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
- Attend design meetings and site inspections as required.
Leadership & Mentoring
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and junior engineers.
- Review and check engineering work produced by others.
- Promote best practice, quality and continuous improvement across the business.
- Contribute to the development of engineering standards and procedures.
RAAC Assessment & Remediation
- Undertake inspections and assessments of RAAC structures.
- Prepare structural reports and recommendations.
- Develop practical remedial and strengthening solutions.
- Receive specialist training to become part of CSP's growing RAAC team.
Business Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry professionals.
- Assist with fee proposals, tenders and business development opportunities.
- Identify opportunities for additional services and repeat business.
- Represent CSP at networking events, professional institutions and industry forums.
About You
You will be a technically capable Chartered Structural Engineer who enjoys solving engineering challenges while building lasting relationships with clients and colleagues.
You will have:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng or MEng).
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng MIStructE or MICE) or be close to achieving Chartership.
- Approximately 5–10 years' post-graduate structural engineering experience within a UK consultancy.
- Strong knowledge of steel, concrete, timber and masonry design.
- Excellent understanding of Eurocodes and UK Building Regulations.
- Experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive and collaborative approach.
- Full UK driving licence (preferred).
Software Experience
Experience using some or all of the following would be advantageous:
- Tekla Structural Designer
- Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis
- TEDDS
- FEM Analysis software
- ETABS
- Revit
- AutoCAD
