SOUS CHEF

An Exceptional Opportunity at the Pinnacle of British Fine Dining

ABOUT OPHEEM

Opheem is one of the most celebrated restaurants in the United Kingdom, holding two Michelin stars since the 2024 guide just a short time after opening. Situated in the heart of Birmingham, Aktar Islam’s Opheem has redefined the boundaries of Indian fine dining, presenting a cuisine of extraordinary technical precision, cultural depth, and creative ambition.

Our restaurant is a place of relentless pursuit for excellence in all aspects. Every plate that leaves our pass carries with it a commitment to the highest standards, and we seek exceptional individuals who share that dedication unconditionally, have the ambition to succeed and drive to develop with us further.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an accomplished and motivated Sous Chef to join the senior brigade at Opheem. Reporting directly to the Aktar, you will occupy a pivotal position in the daily operation of our kitchen by leading by example, upholding our exacting standards and contributing meaningfully to the creative development of the menu and restaurant offering as a whole

This role demands not only outstanding technical ability, but the temperament, composure, and professionalism expected of a senior figure in a two-starred establishment. You will be entrusted with the wellbeing of your team and the integrity of every service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Assist the kitchen in the leadership, direction, and motivation of the kitchen brigade across all sections.

· Take full command of service by maintaining the standards and identity of Opheem.

· Oversee and participate in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of dishes to the highest standard

· Contribute to menu development and seasonal innovation, bringing creative input informed by deep culinary knowledge.

· Ensure rigorous adherence to food safety, allergen management, and hygiene regulations at all times.

· Manage mise en place, stock levels, and ordering.

· Mentor and develop junior members of the brigade, fostering a culture of learning, discipline, and ambition.

· Uphold and embody Opheem's values of excellence, respect, and continuous improvement and adaptation

ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and experience:

· Proven experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie within a Michelin-starred or comparably considered kitchen.

· A sophisticated and well-rounded understanding of classical and contemporary culinary technique.

· Familiarity with, or a keen appreciation for, the flavour profiles and ingredients characteristic of South Asian cuisine.

· Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to perform consistently under pressure in a demanding service environment.

· Natural leadership qualities combined with humility, emotional intelligence, and genuine care for your team.

· A meticulous eye for detail and an uncompromising commitment to quality at every stage of production.

· Strong communication skills and the professional maturity to work closely with senior management.

· Full right to work in the United Kingdom.

WHAT WE OFFER

Opheem is committed to the professional and personal development of everyone who joins us. In return for your talent and dedication, we offer:

· A competitive salary based on experience and the calibre of this role with rewarding conditions as you prove yourself.

· The opportunity to work at the forefront of British fine dining in a world class kitchen setting and constantly evolving environment

· A stimulating, creative environment in which your ideas and expertise will be genuinely valued.

· Staff meals, uniform, and access to industry events and training.

· The chance to be part of a restaurant that continues to develop and try new things to improve.

· 4 day service week with ½ day preparation day. Including just two lunch services.
