Full job description
Salary: Competitive, depending on relevant experience
Location: – UK field – based. Candidates should be home-based across Southern England, with regular travel throughout the UK and Ireland.
Who are Steritech?
SteriTech are a leading supplier of high-quality process equipment used in life science sectors within Ireland and the UK. We are dedicated to the highly regulated pharma/biopharma manufacturing streams, but our equipment and expertise are also desirable in laboratory and development sectors and high‑end cosmetic manufacturing.
About this Role
We are seeking to recruit a Service Technician to support the delivery of core servicing and preventative maintenance activities across Steritech’s installed equipment base. This is a hands‑on engineering role focusing primarily on scheduled servicing, routine maintenance, basic checks and equipment checks, ensuring reliability and client satisfaction.
This position is designed to be a gateway into Steritech’s engineering ladder and a unique opportunity to enter the pharmaceutical and biopharma industry. You will gain early exposure to high‑end, specialised process equipment used in regulated life‑science manufacturing — technology that plays a direct role in producing life‑saving and life‑enhancing medicines.
Working Pattern & Travel Expectations
The role will require extensive travel including staying away from home. While the principal area of work will be within the UK and Ireland, there may be occasional requirement to travel elsewhere in Europe. The role may also include limited participation in out‑of‑hours “standby” arrangements once competence and readiness are demonstrated.
Key Responsibilities:
Service Technicians are responsible for:
- Carrying out planned servicing, routine maintenance, and preventative checks on Autoclaves, Washers, PSGs and Stills.
- Performing standard service procedures including inspections, lubrication, adjustments, cleaning, and component replacement where defined.
- Completing service documentation and reports to Steritech’s standards, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GDP principles.
- Supporting senior engineers on site or internal technical centre where needed.
- Identifying basic issues, recording observations clearly, and escalating appropriately when work is outside the defined scope.
- Demonstrating strong adherence to health & safety, quality, and environmental requirements across both Steritech and client sites.
- Providing professional and clear communication with clients, representing the Steritech brand effectively.
- Managing van stock, service parts, tools, and equipment responsibly.
The ideal candidate will:
- Possess practical engineering experience (typically 2–5 years hands‑on), ideally in field service, maintenance, utilities, process equipment, or similar.
- Hold a technical qualification typically aligned with RQF Level 4 or 5 (e.g. HNC/HND, NVQ Level 4/5, or equivalent experience).
- Be adaptable, mechanically minded, and practical in problem‑solving approaches.
- Be comfortable with travel and working independently on customer sites.
- Demonstrate strong time management, initiative, and self‑motivation.
- Be computer literate and able to complete documentation to a high standard.
- Present professionally and communicate clearly.
Training & Development
All successful candidates will enter a structured 3–4-month training programme designed to ensure competence in core servicing tasks.
Career Pathway
This position is designed to be a gateway into Steritech’s engineering ladder. Depending on capability and performance, the long‑term development path may include:
Service Technician (Core Specialist) – building deep service expertise
Operations Engineer – expanding into troubleshooting, investigations, validation, and more complex tasks
Commissioning Engineer – supporting installation, commissioning, testing, and qualification
Progression is performance‑based, not time‑based.
